How to take

Adult dose

The dosage should be individually adjusted for each patient. This medication is administered orally once a day and should be taken before breakfast or immediately prior to the first meal. Patients starting treatment should begin with 1 mg of Gliclazide, and after 1 to 2 weeks, the dose may be increased by 1 mg. Generally, doses above 4 mg show little additional effect, although if necessary, doses can be increased up to 6 mg or 8 mg. 4 mg is the usual daily maximum.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in patients with insulin-dependent diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis. Avoid taking this medication if you have an allergy to it or any of its components. It is recommended not to use this medication in patients with severely impaired liver or kidney function. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, as well as nursing mothers, should not take this medication. Patients with severe infections, those before or after surgery, or those who have suffered major trauma are advised to receive insulin therapy instead of this medication. Caution should be taken if there are gastrointestinal disturbances such as diarrhea or vomiting, as this may prevent proper absorption of the medication and increase the risk of hypoglycemia. During the initial stages of treatment, the risk of hypoglycemia is high; hence, blood glucose levels should be monitored frequently, particularly in elderly patients, those with poor nutritional status, or individuals with irregular eating habits. Patients who frequently consume alcohol or have weakened kidney or liver function may also react more sensitively to this medication. If taking other medications, consult with a physician or pharmacist as interactions may affect blood sugar control. If symptoms of hypoglycemia occur, it is important to consume carbohydrates immediately, and if symptoms are severe, seek medical attention promptly. This medication should be taken in conjunction with regular meals, exercise, and weight management for optimal effectiveness. In cases of overdose, severe hypoglycemia may occur, requiring immediate emergency treatment and care following the physician's directions. Store this medication out of reach of children and keep it in its original container.
