Precautions

This drug works by disrupting the cell wall synthesis of certain bacteria, leading to their death. It should not be used in patients who have had severe allergic reactions or shock due to this medication in the past. Patients allergic to this drug or similar classes of antibiotics should also avoid it. Caution is needed for patients with allergies to penicillin antibiotics or those prone to allergic symptoms like asthma, rashes, and hives. Patients with severe renal impairment, those who have difficulty with oral intake, elderly patients, or patients in poor general condition require special observation when using this medication. Patients with a history of gastrointestinal diseases, especially colitis, should exercise caution when using this medication. This drug can rarely cause shock or severe allergic reactions; thus, if atypical symptoms arise during administration, the medication should be stopped immediately and medical attention sought. Severe reactions such as Stevens-Johnson syndrome or toxic epidermal necrolysis can occur, so skin condition should be closely monitored. Hemoglobin or platelet levels may decrease, necessitating regular blood tests for abnormalities. Symptoms of liver dysfunction or renal impairment may appear, hence periodic monitoring of liver and renal condition is required. Rarely, severe colitis, diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting may occur, so if abdominal pain or diarrhea persists, medical personnel should be informed. Respiratory system symptoms may also occur infrequently; attention should be paid if dyspnea or coughing worsens. There may be impacts on the central nervous system causing anxiety, restlessness, dizziness, or drowsiness, so monitoring for unusual symptoms is essential. Oral inflammation or candidiasis may develop due to microbial imbalance when using this medication. Symptoms from vitamin K deficiency leading to bleeding tendencies or vitamin B deficiencies may appear infrequently, necessitating careful observation in cases of symptom emergence. Interactions with other medications may occur, so especially when combined with probenecid, diuretics, anticoagulants, or oral contraceptives, medical consultation is necessary. Women who are pregnant or could become pregnant must have careful consideration regarding the use of this medication, and lactating women should be cautious as the drug may be excreted in breast milk in small amounts. The safety and efficacy of this medication have not been established in neonates under 1 month, so it is advisable not to use it in this population. Elderly individuals may have more pronounced adverse reactions due to diminished body functions, so the dosage and administration intervals should be adjusted with careful monitoring.
