Erdos Capsule (Erdosteine)

Adult dose

Adults: Administer 300 mg of erdosteine orally 2～3 times daily. When used to treat acute respiratory disease, do not administer continuously for more than 10 days.

This medication should not be used in specific patients. For example, individuals who are allergic to this medication or its components should not take it. Patients with liver cirrhosis or cystathionine beta-synthase deficiency should not take this medication, as its metabolites may affect methionine metabolism. Patients with peptic ulcers should also avoid this medication. Additionally, patients with severely impaired kidney function and severely diminished liver function should not use this medication. Patients with mild to moderate liver dysfunction should use this medication with caution and should ensure they do not exceed 300mg per day. Patients with diabetes or those on a low-calorie diet should be cautious when taking the syrup form of this medication. This medication contains Yellow No. 5 dye, so individuals allergic to this component should exercise caution when taking it. Overdose may manifest symptoms such as sweating, dizziness, facial flushing. Central nervous system and respiratory system abnormalities such as headaches, cold symptoms, and respiratory distress have also been reported. Gastrointestinal symptoms may include dysgeusia, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and heartburn. Dermatological symptoms may include hives, erythema, and eczema. Various adverse reactions such as fatigue, dyspepsia, palpitations, and facial swelling have been reported in post-marketing surveys, although a direct relationship with this medication is not clear. Taking this medication alongside expectorants may complicate the expulsion of phlegm due to cough relief, increasing the risk of bronchial infection, so caution is especially necessary. Pregnant or breastfeeding women are advised to avoid taking this medication since its safety has not been sufficiently established. This medication should be stored out of the reach of children, and care should be taken to avoid transferring it to other containers as this may pose a risk of accidents and degrade quality.
