Effectiveness in treating respiratory infections and urinary tract infections
This medication is used to treat various bacterial infections. It is particularly effective against respiratory infections except for acute bronchitis and community-acquired pneumonia. It is also used for ear, nose, and throat infections, bacterial prostatitis, acute cystitis, pyelonephritis, and complicated urinary tract infections. Additionally, it helps treat infections of various sites, including gonococcal cervicitis and urethritis, gastrointestinal infections, bile duct infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and osteoarticular infections. It can also be applied to gynecological infections, peritonitis, nasolacrimal duct infections, and chalazia. However, for some mild diseases, other treatment methods are preferred, and this drug should only be used when absolutely necessary due to the risk of serious adverse reactions. This medication is effective in treating various bacterial infections and contributes to the recovery of the patient's health.
Typically for adults, ciprofloxacin is administered as 250 to 500 mg per dose p.o. twice daily between meals. In cases of severe complex infections, the dose may be increased to 750 mg twice daily. For acute infections, treatment usually lasts 5 to 10 days, and an additional minimum of 3 days of treatment should continue after symptoms have resolved. In patients with renal impairment, the dosage should be adjusted according to creatinine clearance; for severe infections, the dose may be increased up to 750 mg per single dose.
This medication can cause serious side effects such as tendonitis, tendon rupture, peripheral neuropathy, and central nervous system abnormalities; if these symptoms occur, discontinue use immediately. Particularly, patients with myasthenia gravis may experience worsening symptoms when taking this medication and should avoid its use. This medication is recommended only for specific infections and should be used only when there are no other treatment options available. Elderly patients, patients with renal impairment, and those taking this medication along with steroids are at higher risk for tendon rupture and should exercise caution. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, children under 18, patients with epilepsy, and those allergic to this medication or similar drugs should not take it. This medication can interact with several other drugs, so specifically avoid concomitant use with medications such as theophylline, tizanidine, and ketoprofen. Additionally, this drug can affect the central nervous system, so caution is needed when driving or operating machinery, and it should be avoided with alcohol. Diabetic patients requiring blood sugar control should closely monitor blood sugar changes while taking this medication, and should seek immediate treatment if symptoms of hypoglycemia occur. If symptoms such as rash, itching, breathing difficulties, severe abdominal pain, or vision changes occur while using this medication, consult a medical professional immediately. This medication may increase sensitivity to sunlight, so avoid excessive sun exposure, and if photosensitivity symptoms occur, discontinue use. Overdose may lead to kidney damage, so strictly adhere to the recommended dosage, and if an overdose occurs, seek medical attention immediately. This medication may affect growth in children, so it should not be used in adolescents under 18. Finally, store this medication away from direct sunlight and out of reach of children, and it is advisable to avoid transferring it to other containers.
