Treatment of genitourinary and intestinal infections, respiratory, ear, nose, skin, and eye infections, and leprosy in combination with other treatments
This medication is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic effective against various bacterial infections, acting on several harmful species including Staphylococcus, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Haemophilus influenzae. It is primarily used for complicated skin and soft tissue infections, acute and chronic otitis media, acute and chronic sinusitis, community-acquired pneumonia, acute exacerbations of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, urinary tract infections (acute pyelonephritis, cystitis, prostatitis, urethritis, etc.), bacterial dysentery and enteritis, inflammation of the uterus and appendages in women, and ophthalmic diseases (blepharitis, stye, corneal ulcer, etc.). This medication is particularly selected in cases where existing treatments are difficult due to chronic conditions or acute situations, and is included in combination therapy for leprosy. Due to the risk of serious adverse reactions associated with fluoroquinolone medications, it is important to use this medication only under the guidance of a physician when necessary. Patients can benefit from the treatment of various infections using this medication.
The usual adult dosage of ofloxacin is 300~600 mg per day in 2~3 divided doses. For leprosy, the dosage of this medicine is 400~600 mg per day in 2~3 divided doses. In principle, it should be used in combination with other anti-leprosy medicines. The dosage may be adjusted as appropriate according to the patient's age and symptoms.
This medication is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic used for the treatment of bacterial infections. Precautions should be taken as serious side effects related to tendons, such as tendonitis or tendon rupture, may occur while using this medication. Additionally, it may affect the central nervous system, causing symptoms such as headaches, dizziness, and seizures, and should not be administered to patients with myasthenia gravis as it may worsen symptoms. This medication is only used when there are no alternative treatments for specific infections such as acute bacterial sinusitis, acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis, uncomplicated urinary tract infections, and acute otitis media. Elderly patients, those with impaired kidney function, and patients using corticosteroids should be particularly cautious as the risk of tendon rupture is increased. Various side effects can occur, including allergic reactions, liver and kidney dysfunction, gastrointestinal disorders, blood disorders, neurological and psychiatric disorders, skin rashes; therefore, patients should immediately inform healthcare providers of any unusual symptoms. Particularly, serious allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis, can occur infrequently, and if symptoms such as hypotension, difficulty breathing, or chest tightness appear during administration, the medication should be stopped immediately. This medication should not be administered to patients with specific genetic disorders, a history of seizures, women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, or adolescents under 18 years of age. It may also interact with other medications, therefore it is important to inform healthcare providers of any medications being taken, such as warfarin, antidiabetic agents, or antacids, and to maintain a time interval when taking this medication concurrently. Adequate hydration is necessary during administration and excessive exposure to sunlight should be avoided. Visual disturbances or peripheral neuropathy may occur as side effects; should these symptoms arise, immediate consultation with an ophthalmologist is advised. Elderly patients may experience elevated drug concentrations due to decreased renal function, thus requiring dose adjustment and careful monitoring. Finally, adverse effects on joints have been reported in young animals, thus this medication should not be used in growing children and adolescents.
