Treatment of respiratory infections (such as otitis media and bronchitis), urinary tract infections, and skin and soft tissue infections
This medication is mainly used for upper respiratory tract infections such as pharyngitis, tonsillitis, otitis media, and acute sinusitis. It is also effective in treating secondary bacterial infections of acute bronchitis and acute exacerbation of chronic bronchitis among lower respiratory tract infections. It is utilized for the treatment of simple skin and soft tissue infections caused by Staphylococcus or Streptococcus, as well as post-surgical abscesses. Furthermore, it is used for the treatment of uncomplicated urinary tract infections, particularly cystitis. This drug demonstrates therapeutic effects against various pathogens including Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, and Moraxella catarrahalis. Therefore, it is a medication used for the treatment of various types of bacterial infections.
Adults (13 years and older) 1) For upper respiratory tract infections, including pharyngitis and tonsillitis, administer 500mg (potency) of cefprozil every 24 hours; for acute sinusitis, administer 250mg (potency) or 500mg (potency) every 12 hours (increase the dose for moderate or more severe infections). 2) For bacterial superinfection of acute bronchitis or bacterial exacerbation of chronic bronchitis, both lower respiratory tract infections, administer 500mg (potency) of this medicine every 12 hours. 3) For uncomplicated skin and soft tissue infections, administer 250mg (potency) of this medicine every 12 hours [or 500mg (potency) every 24 hours], or, depending on symptoms, administer 500mg (potency) every 12 hours. 4) For uncomplicated urinary tract infections, administer 500mg (potency) of this medicine every 24 hours. Treatment is generally given for about 10 days; however, for pharyngitis/tonsillitis caused by Streptococcus pyogenes (group A beta-hemolytic streptococcus), administer for at least 10 days. For uncomplicated cystitis, administer for about 7 days. Patients with renal impairment 1) For a creatinine clearance of 30~120mL/min, administer according to the standard dosage and administration described above. 2) For a creatinine clearance of 29mL/min or less, administer 50% of the standard dose at the standard dosing interval. However, some of this medicine is removed by hemodialysis, so administer it after hemodialysis is completed. Once reconstituted, store refrigerated and use within 14 days (syrup only).
Children (2~12 years) — Pharyngitis and tonsillitis, upper respiratory tract infections: Administer 7.5mg (potency) per Kg of body weight every 12 hours. Children (2~12 years) — Uncomplicated skin and soft tissue infections: Administer 20mg (potency) per Kg of body weight every 24 hours. Infants and children (6 months~12 years) — Otitis media, an upper respiratory tract infection: Administer 15mg per Kg of body weight every 12 hours. Infants and children (6 months~12 years) — Acute sinusitis: Administer 7.5mg per Kg of body weight every 12 hours. For moderate or more severe infections requiring a dose increase, administer 15mg per Kg of body weight every 12 hours.
This drug is a cephalosporin antibiotic used for the treatment of bacterial infections. It should not be administered to patients who are allergic to cephalosporin antibiotics. Patients with a history of hypersensitivity reactions to penicillin or other medications should be particularly cautious when using this drug, as there may be cross-reactivity. Severely ill patients or those with impaired kidney function should undergo renal function tests prior to use and should be closely monitored during treatment. For patients with poor kidney function, it may be necessary to reduce the dosage as blood concentrations of this drug may increase. Patients with a history of gastrointestinal disease, particularly colitis, should exercise caution while using this drug. This medication contains Yellow No. 5 dye, so patients allergic to this component should use it with caution. Possible gastrointestinal side effects include diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. Liver function abnormalities may result in elevated AST, ALT, ALP, and bilirubin levels; rare cases of cholestatic jaundice have also been reported. Hypersensitivity reactions such as a rash or urticaria may occur, especially more frequently in children. Central nervous system adverse reactions such as dizziness, headache, insomnia, and drowsiness may occur infrequently; rare cases of seizures have also been reported. Laboratory tests may show leukopenia or eosinophilia, and markers of renal function may also increase. Infectious side effects such as diaper rash and vaginitis may occur. The risk of nephrotoxicity may increase when this drug is used concurrently with other cephalosporin antibiotics or diuretics. Probenecid may increase the body concentration of this drug. This drug should only be used during pregnancy when absolutely necessary, and its use during breastfeeding should be approached with caution, as its effects on infants are unknown. It is advisable not to use this drug in infants under 6 months of age, where safety and efficacy have not been established. For individuals aged 65 years and older, dosage adjustments may be required as drug concentrations may increase due to impaired renal function. To prevent the emergence of antibiotic-resistant bacteria, it is preferred to administer this medication for the minimum duration necessary after susceptibility testing. If diarrhea occurs after antibiotic use, the possibility of pseudomembranous colitis should be considered, and appropriate treatment should be applied if necessary. In case of overdose, the drug is excreted through the kidneys; therefore, for patients with impaired renal function, dialysis can be used to remove the drug from the blood. This drug does not pose a risk of carcinogenicity or mutagenicity, and no reproductive dysfunction was observed in animal studies.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication should be stored in a container that is light-blocking and airtight, at room temperature between 1 to 30 degrees Celsius. Storing in this manner maintains the drug's efficacy and prevents degradation.
