Treatment of skin and nail fungal infections
This medicine is used for the treatment of dermatophyte infections of the skin such as athlete's foot, tinea corporis, and tinea cruris, as well as nail fungal infections in adults. It is also effective for treating tinea capitis in children. In summary, it is used to improve various skin and nail fungal infections.
As terbinafine: 1 dose of 125 mg, twice a day, or 1 dose of 250 mg, once a day. Treatment duration varies based on the disease as follows: 1) Dermatophyte infections: - Athlete's foot (interdigital type, plantar type/moccasin type): 2 to 6 weeks - Tinea corporis: 2 to 4 weeks - Tinea cruris: 2 to 4 weeks 2) Nail fungal infections: Generally administered for 6 weeks to 3 months. If the infection is in a toenail or relatively small toe, or if the patient is younger, treatment may be shortened to less than 3 months. A typical duration for toenail infections is sufficient at about 3 months, but some patients may take 6 months or longer. In cases with slow nail growth, treatment duration may extend.
Administer to children aged 2 years and older. There is no experience in administering to those under 2 years old, so it is not recommended. Tinea capitis: 4 weeks. 1) Body weight under 20 kg (under 5 years): 1 dose of 62.5 mg, 1
This medication is not recommended for patients with chronic or active liver disease. It is essential to check for liver disease before administration, and regular liver function tests should be conducted. If symptoms suggestive of liver dysfunction occur, inform a doctor immediately and discontinue the medication. Additionally, this drug can cause severe liver damage, such as hepatic failure; therefore, careful observation while performing regular liver function tests is necessary. This medication should not be administered to individuals who are hypersensitive to its ingredients, have chronic liver disease, blood disorders, severe renal failure, breastfeeding mothers, or infants under 2 years old. Particularly, since it contains lactose, patients with lactose intolerance should avoid taking it. Patients with impaired renal function, elderly individuals, and underweight children should use this medication with increased caution. Serious skin rashes or allergic reactions may occur rarely, and any skin changes should prompt immediate discontinuation of usage. During treatment, regular blood tests are required not only for liver function but also for any abnormal symptoms that may arise, and healthcare providers should be consulted promptly. This medication should only be used when the fungal infection has spread throughout the body, and caution is needed as dizziness and other side effects may occur during driving or operating machinery. Moreover, this medicine may interact with other drugs; therefore, if any other medications are being taken, this must be communicated to healthcare providers, and dosage adjustments might be necessary. For women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, the use of this drug should be carefully considered, and breastfeeding should be discontinued during treatment. Children and the elderly have different bodily functions, so when using this drug, benefits and risks must be thoroughly evaluated. In case of overdose, symptoms such as headache, nausea, abdominal pain, and dizziness may appear, so if such symptoms occur, immediate medical attention should be sought. This medication should be stored out of the reach of children and kept in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight.
Severe allergic reactions (hives, severe swelling, chest tightness, difficulty breathing, cold sweat, pallor), severe skin adverse reactions (severe rash with high fever, blisters, skin peeling, oral/eye mucosal pain), respiratory problems (shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, asthma attacks, respiratory issues with cough and fever), liver abnormalities (yellowing of skin or eyes indicating jaundice, extreme fatigue), severe neurological symptoms (sudden onset)
Rash, itching, photosensitivity reactions, acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis, erythema multiforme, toxic skin rash, exfoliative dermatitis, blistering dermatitis, psoriasiform rash or exacerbation of psoriasis, hair loss, musculoskeletal reactions (joint pain, muscle pain), myalgia, weakness, hypotension, respiratory difficulties, chest tightness, hives, erythema, facial swelling, lymphadenitis, gastrointestinal symptoms (abdominal bloating, decreased appetite, dyspepsia, nausea, mild abdominal pain, diarrhea), upper gastrointestinal discomfort.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication should be stored in a tightly closed container to prevent air exposure and kept at room temperature between 1 to 30 degrees Celsius. Proper storage will help maintain the effectiveness of the medication.
