This medication should not be administered to certain patients. Firstly, patients who are allergic to this medicine or its ingredients should not use it. Secondly, patients with liver cirrhosis or cystathionine synthase deficiency should not take this drug as its metabolites may affect methionine metabolism. Thirdly, patients with peptic ulcers should also not take this medication. Fourthly, patients with severe renal impairment, particularly those with a creatinine clearance of less than 25 mL/min, should not be administered this drug. Fifthly, patients with severe hepatic impairment should also avoid use of this medication. Lastly, this medication contains lactose, so patients with lactose intolerance, Lapp lactase deficiency, or glucose-galactose malabsorption should not take it. There are also patients who require caution while using this medication. Patients with mild to moderate hepatic impairment have not shown an increase in adverse reactions, but they should avoid exceeding a daily dose of 300 mg. Diabetic patients or those on a low-calorie diet should also be cautious when using the syrup formulation. In case of overdose, symptoms such as sweating, dizziness, and facial flushing may occur. Additionally, gastrointestinal symptoms such as headache, cold symptoms, shortness of breath, taste disturbances, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and heartburn may also occur. Skin reactions like urticaria, erythema, and eczema may appear. Post-marketing surveys in South Korea have also reported fatigue, indigestion, palpitations, facial swelling, itching, weakness, and rashes. Caution should be taken when using this medication in conjunction with expectorants, as this may make it difficult to expel phlegm due to cough relief, increasing the risk of bronchial infection and causing bronchospasm. It is particularly advisable for women who may become pregnant to avoid taking this medication. When storing, it should be kept in a sealed container to prevent exposure to air or moisture.
