Treatment of dermatophyte infections (such as athlete's foot, tinea corporis) and onychomycosis
This medication is used in adults for the treatment of tinea pedis, tinea corporis, tinea cruris (ringworm), and onychomycosis caused by dermatophytes. It is also used in children for the treatment of tinea capitis.
As terbinafine, administer 125 mg twice daily or 250 mg once daily. The duration of treatment varies by disease: 1) Dermatophytosis - Tinea pedis (interdigital, plantar/moccasin type): 2-6 weeks - Tinea corporis: 2-4 weeks - Tinea cruris (ringworm): 2-4 weeks 2) Onychomycosis - Typically administered for 6 weeks to 3 months. - The treatment duration may be shortened to less than 3 months for infected fingernails or relatively small toes, or in younger patients. While a treatment duration of 3 months is generally sufficient for toenail infections, some patients may take 6 months or longer. In cases of slow nail growth, the treatment duration may be extended.
Administer to children over 2 years of age. 1) Weight less than 20 kg (under 5 years): 62.5 mg once daily. 2) Weight 20-40 kg (5-12 years): 125 mg once daily.
This medication is not recommended for patients with chronic liver disease or active liver disease. Be sure to check for liver disease before using this drug, and a liver function test is recommended for all patients. Regular liver function tests should be conducted during treatment, and if any liver dysfunction is suspected, the medication should be discontinued immediately. Symptoms of liver dysfunction include persistent nausea, loss of appetite, fatigue, vomiting, pain in the upper right abdomen, jaundice, dark urine, diarrhea, etc., and if these symptoms occur, notify a doctor immediately. This medication may rarely cause liver failure that could lead to death or require a liver transplant if liver function is severely compromised; therefore, the treatment should be stopped immediately if liver damage progresses. Serious skin reactions may rarely occur in patients taking this medication, so use should be discontinued immediately if any skin rash or unusual symptoms occur. This medication should not be used in patients with specific blood disorders, severe renal failure, nursing mothers, children under 2 years of age, or patients with lactose intolerance. Use with caution in patients with impaired kidney function, elderly patients, and children weighing less than 20 kg; special attention is needed for patients with skin diseases. Common side effects may include gastrointestinal disturbances, headache, myalgia, rash, fatigue, and rare reports of blood abnormalities, liver function abnormalities, and severe allergic reactions. This medication should only be used when a fungal infection is not treatable topically, and if symptoms such as dizziness occur, it is advisable to avoid driving or operating machinery. This medication may interact with other drugs; therefore, if other medications are being taken, be sure to inform a doctor or pharmacist, and dosage adjustments may be necessary. Pregnant women or women who may become pregnant should carefully consider the benefits and risks of using this medication if treatment is necessary, and nursing mothers should discontinue breastfeeding while taking this medication. In cases of overdose, symptoms such as headache, nausea, abdominal pain, and dizziness may occur, and immediate medical attention is required. This medication should be kept out of the reach of children and stored in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
