Improvement of blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes
This medication is used as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve blood sugar control in patients with type 2 diabetes. It can be administered alone, and in cases where blood sugar control is difficult, it can be used in combination with insulin or other hypoglycemic agents like sulfonylureas or metformin. This helps effectively manage blood sugar levels and improve diabetes symptoms.
Adjusted individually for each patient. This medication is taken orally once daily, before breakfast or just prior to the first meal. The initial dose starts at 1 mg of glimepiride once daily, and it may be increased by 1 mg at intervals of 1 to 2 weeks. Generally, there is little additional benefit from doses more than 4 mg, although some patients may be able to increase to 6 mg or 8 mg.
This medication should not be used in patients with insulin-dependent diabetes or those with severe hepatic or renal impairment. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should not take this medication, and caution is needed in patients with severe infections or before and after surgery. Patients with specific genetic problems, such as lactose intolerance, should not take this medication. During the initial treatment phase, the risk of hypoglycemia is high, and blood glucose levels should be closely monitored. Special care should be taken for elderly patients or those with poor nutritional status, irregular meal patterns, or those who frequently consume alcohol. This medication can cause hypoglycemia, so if symptoms such as headache, severe hunger, dizziness, or coma occur, immediate action is required. Vision disturbances or gastrointestinal symptoms, liver function abnormalities, blood disorders, allergic reactions may occur, so if any unusual symptoms arise, consult a doctor immediately. Regular intake along with dietary and exercise therapy is necessary, and if hypoglycemia occurs, intake of sugar should promptly alleviate symptoms. If taken with other medications, drug interactions may occur, so it is important to inform your doctor or pharmacist about any ongoing medications. In cases of pregnancy or breastfeeding, it is safer to switch to insulin therapy rather than taking this medication. The safety and efficacy in children have not been established, and dosage adjustments may be necessary in elderly patients due to decreased renal function. In cases of overdose, severe hypoglycemia may occur, so immediate medical treatment is required, and this medication should be kept out of reach of children.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication should be stored in a tightly closed container to protect it from air and moisture. It is also advisable to store it at room temperature between 1 degree and 30 degrees Celsius to maintain its efficacy over time.
