Reduction of risk of cardiovascular diseases and improvement of hyperlipidemia
This medication has the efficacy of reducing the risk of cardiovascular diseases. It reduces the risk of coronary events, myocardial infarction, and stroke in adult patients with a history of coronary heart disease, diabetes, peripheral vascular disease, or stroke. It also helps to lower the risk of complications after vascular procedures. It is used to treat hyperlipidemia and improves various dyslipidemia conditions, including primary hypercholesterolemia, familial and non-familial dyslipidemia, and hypertriglyceridemia. It is used effectively to lower cholesterol levels in young children with familial hypercholesterolemia in conjunction with dietary measures. This medication is used comprehensively to promote cardiovascular health and reduce risks.
Administer 20 mg once daily in the evening. For patients with mild to moderate hypercholesterolemia, starting with 10 mg may be appropriate. The recommended dosage is 5 to 40 mg once daily in the evening. Adjust the dosage based on initial LDL-cholesterol levels, therapeutic goals, and the patient's drug response before initiation. Recommended dosages vary for specific patient populations and when combined with other medications. For example, in cases of homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia
For pediatric patients aged 10 to 17 with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia, administer 10 mg once daily in the evening. The recommended dosage range is 10 to 40 mg daily, with a maximum dosage of 40 mg daily.
This medication primarily acts in the liver to lower blood cholesterol levels. However, it may affect muscles and cause symptoms such as muscle pain or weakness. The risk of muscle damage may be higher, especially when taking high doses, so caution is needed. If symptoms like muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness occur during treatment, it is necessary to consult a doctor immediately. Patients with liver dysfunction or active liver disease should not take this medication. Women who are pregnant, potentially pregnant, or breastfeeding should not take this medication. Also, taking this medication with certain antifungal agents, antibiotics, immunosuppressants, or blood pressure medications can increase the risk of muscle damage; therefore, be sure to inform the doctor of all medications currently being taken. This medication can affect liver function, so regular liver function tests are advisable. Elderly patients or those with impaired renal function are at a higher risk of muscle damage while taking this medication and should be monitored closely. While taking this medication, it is advisable to avoid certain foods such as grapefruit juice, and it is safe to limit alcohol consumption during treatment. This medication is restricted for use in children, specifically in patients with certain hypercholesterolemia conditions, and should not be administered to children under 10 years of age. If any abnormal symptoms appear during treatment, immediate consultation with medical staff is essential, and care should be taken not to discontinue the medication on your own.
