Precautions

This drug is an antibiotic that kills bacteria by binding to certain proteins and disrupting bacterial cell wall synthesis. It should not be administered to patients who have previously experienced severe allergic reactions or shock after using this drug. Patients allergic to this drug or similar classes of antibiotics should also avoid it. Individuals with a history of allergy to penicillin antibiotics or those prone to allergic reactions such as bronchial asthma, rashes, or hives should use this drug cautiously. Patients with very poor kidney function, elderly individuals, or those with poor nutritional status may have an increased risk of bleeding due to vitamin K deficiency, and caution is necessary. Patients with a history of gastrointestinal diseases, especially colitis, should also use this drug with caution. This drug contains a pigment known as Yellow No. 5, and those with an allergy to this component must inform their healthcare provider before administration. Severe allergic reactions such as generalized flushing, swelling, or breathing difficulties may occur during use; if symptoms occur, discontinue treatment immediately and seek medical attention. If severe rashes, blisters, or mucosal damage appear on the skin, treatment should be discontinued immediately and appropriate care should be pursued. Regular blood tests are necessary as there may be abnormalities such as decreased white blood cells or platelets. Liver or kidney function may become abnormal; if symptoms arise, consultation with healthcare professionals should be arranged. Gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain may occur infrequently, so symptoms should be monitored closely. Respiratory symptoms such as pneumonia or difficulty in breathing may rarely occur, so any unusual symptoms should be reported immediately. Central nervous system side effects such as anxiety, dizziness, and drowsiness may occur, hence caution is needed. This drug can cause vitamin K deficiency, increasing the risk of bleeding; therefore, individuals with bleeding tendencies or blood coagulation disorders should use it carefully. There may be interactions with other medications, especially anticoagulants, diuretics, and certain antibiotics; thus, it is crucial to inform healthcare providers when using them together. If oral contraceptives are being taken, this medication may reduce their effectiveness, and additional contraceptive methods should be considered. Pregnant or breastfeeding women may find the use of this drug unsafe; hence, it should be used only after consulting a physician. For neonates under 1 month old, the safety and efficacy of this drug have not been established, and its use should be avoided. In elderly patients, diminished physiological functions may make them more susceptible to side effects, so dosage adjustments and careful monitoring are necessary. It is important to administer this drug for only the minimum necessary duration to prevent bacterial resistance.
