How to take

Adult dose

Adults and children aged 12 years or older or weighing 40 kg or more: Amoxicillin/Clavulanate potassium at a dose of 250 mg/125 mg once, orally three times a day every 8 hours. For severe and respiratory infections, can increase to 500 mg/125 mg once. In cases of renal impairment, dosage should be adjusted according to creatinine clearance. Creatinine clearance of 10 to 30 mL/min: 250 to 500 mg of amoxicillin per dose.

Child dose

Pediatric patients under 12 years of age or weighing less than 40 kg should have their dose reduced following the same method according to the creatinine clearance in cases of renal impairment.

Precautions

This drug is a penicillin antibiotic and should not be administered to certain patients. For instance, patients with a history of allergic reactions to this drug or beta-lactam drugs may experience severe hypersensitive reactions. Additionally, patients with viral infections such as infectious mononucleosis or lymphocytic leukemia are at a higher risk of developing rashes and should avoid this medication. Patients who have previously experienced liver dysfunction or jaundice due to this medication or penicillin are also advised against its use due to the risk of recurrence. Patients with poor liver function should be cautious as their liver function may deteriorate further. For patients with moderate to severe renal impairment, the medication can remain in the body longer, leading to potential side effects, so dosage and administration intervals need to be adjusted. Patients with allergic tendencies, difficulty swallowing, the elderly, and those with poor overall health may also experience side effects such as vitamin deficiencies. Patients suffering from gastrointestinal diseases with severe vomiting or diarrhea may not absorb the medication effectively. Taking this medication may result in various gastrointestinal symptoms, including diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and loss of appetite. Rarely, serious issues such as pseudomembranous colitis or acute pancreatitis can occur; if severe abdominal pain or diarrhea arises, stop taking the medication immediately and consult a doctor. High-dose use can commonly present with nausea symptoms, so taking the medication with meals is advised. Liver function abnormalities may occur, particularly in elderly patients and males. Adverse reactions can manifest during treatment or even up to six weeks after discontinuation, so careful observation is necessary. In severe cases, hepatitis or jaundice may develop, and very rarely, it can lead to fatality. Skin reactions such as itching, rashes, or severe skin reactions may rarely occur. If these symptoms occur, stop the medication immediately and follow your doctor's instructions. Anaphylactic shock, a severe allergic reaction, can occur very rarely, so patients should be closely monitored after administration. Blood tests may reveal leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, anemia, and other abnormalities, and caution is needed as bleeding tendencies may develop. Central nervous system anomalies such as anxiety, confusion, drowsiness, and seizures may occur rarely, particularly in patients with impaired kidney function or during high-dose administration. This drug is mainly excreted through the kidneys, so patients with decreased kidney function require regular testing, and administration should be discontinued if abnormalities are found. The use of antibiotics can disturb the balance of intestinal bacteria, potentially leading to Candida infections or stomatitis while increasing the risk of bleeding due to vitamin K deficiency. This drug may interact with other medications, so particularly when used in combination with anticoagulants, anti-inflammatory drugs, antibiotics, etc., consult with a physician or pharmacist. Safety has not been established during pregnancy, especially during the first three months, thus it is advised not to use it during that period. During breastfeeding, the medication may transfer through breast milk and present side effects to the baby, so caution is needed. Not recommended for children under the age of 12 or weighing less than 40 kg. Elderly patients may more easily experience side effects due to declining physical function, so dosage and administration intervals should be adjusted, and close observation is necessary. During the use of this medication, some clinical test results like urinalysis may be affected, and patients should inform healthcare professionals during tests. In case of overdose, primarily gastrointestinal symptoms and electrolyte imbalances may appear, and in severe cases, convulsions or shock can occur, necessitating immediate medical attention for appropriate treatment. This medication should be stored in a dry place below 25 degrees Celsius, and it is important to take it only for the prescribed duration following the physician's guidance.
