Treatment of respiratory and skin infections, mycobacterial infections, and Helicobacter pylori eradication
This medication is effective for the treatment of various bacterial infections. Major target bacteria include Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Listeria, among others. It is also used in the treatment of lower respiratory tract infections such as bronchitis and pneumonia, and upper respiratory tract infections like pharyngitis and sinusitis. It is effective against skin and soft tissue infections, and can assist in the treatment of mycobacterial infections caused by Mycobacterium avium and intracellularis. It shows good effects in the eradication of Helicobacter pylori in patients with duodenal ulcers. As such, it is used to improve various infectious diseases.
Adults: The usual dose is 250 mg (potency) of clarithromycin per dose twice daily. For severe infections, administer 500 mg (potency) per dose twice daily. The usual duration of treatment is 7~14 days. In patients with renal failure and creatinine clearance of 30 mL/min or less, reduce the dose by half: administer 250 mg (potency) once daily, or, for severe infections, 250 mg (potency) per dose twice daily. Do not administer for more than 14 days in these patients. Mycobacterial infections: Administer 500 mg (potency) of this medicine per dose twice daily. In this case, it must be coadministered with other antimycobacterial agents such as ethambutol, clofazimine, and rifampin. Eradication of Helicobacter pylori in patients with duodenal ulcer: Administer 500 mg (potency) of this medicine 3 times daily with omeprazole 40 mg once daily for 14 days, followed by omeprazole 40 mg once daily for 14 consecutive days. That is, administer clarithromycin 500 mg (potency) per dose 3 times daily for 14 days (days 1~14), and omeprazole 40 mg once daily for 28 days (days 1~28).
Children 12 years and older: Same as adults. For children under 12 years, use clarithromycin dry syrup.
