It is also utilized for the treatment of respiratory infections such as bronchitis, pneumonia, tonsillitis, and pharyngitis. It is effective in the treatment of infections of bones and glands, such as osteomyelitis and mastitis, and is used for various infectious diseases such as scarlet fever, bacterial dysentery, otitis media, and sinusitis. This medication improves a variety of bacterial infections.
Adults: For severe infections, administer lincomycin 500 mg (potency) orally every 8 hours; for very severe infections, administer 500 mg (potency) every 6 hours. Adjust the dose appropriately according to age and symptoms.
Children (28 days and older): For severe infections, administer 30 mg (potency)/kg body weight daily in 3 ∼ 4 divided doses.
This medication can cause severe colitis, so it should only be used for severe infections that are difficult to treat with other antibiotics. If colitis occurs, severe diarrhea, abdominal pain, and fever may present, and pseudomembranous colitis can be confirmed by endoscopy. If abdominal pain or diarrhea is severe, the administration of the drug should be stopped, or if necessary, it should be used under close observation. Do not use for non-bacterial upper respiratory infections or mild bacterial infections. This medication does not effectively reach the cerebrospinal fluid and is not suitable for the treatment of meningitis. Do not use this medication if there is a history of allergic reactions to this drug or its components, or similar drugs, nor in patients with severe gastrointestinal diseases such as colitis, patients with bacterial meningitis, or breastfeeding women. Elderly patients, those with a history of colitis, or patients with liver or kidney function issues, patients with a history of bronchial asthma or severe allergies, patients with esophageal passage disorders, and patients with neuromuscular disorders such as myasthenia gravis should use this medication with caution. When using this medication, various side effects such as shock, severe gastrointestinal symptoms, blood abnormalities, central nervous system symptoms, and skin rashes may occur, so if any abnormal symptoms appear, administration should be stopped immediately and a doctor consulted. To prevent the emergence of resistant bacteria, it is important to check the susceptibility of the infecting bacteria and only administer for the minimum necessary duration. If colitis symptoms are mild, discontinuation of administration is sufficient, but if symptoms are severe, prompt appropriate treatment is required. Regular blood and liver and kidney function tests are recommended during long-term use. Antidiarrheal agents should not be used to treat diarrhea. Allergic reactions can appear abruptly, so it is important to check for a history of allergy to antibiotics and prepare for emergency treatment. This medication may cause severe side effects when taken with certain other antibiotics or drugs, so if there are any concomitant medications, it is essential to inform the doctor or pharmacist. Pregnant women or women who may become pregnant should avoid using this medication, and nursing mothers should avoid breastfeeding as the drug may pass into breast milk. It is advisable not to use this medication in neonates or premature infants as its safety has not been established. In cases of overdose, symptoms such as abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea may appear, and immediate consultation with medical personnel is required for appropriate treatment. This medication may affect blood test results, so it is important to inform medical staff during tests. During antibiotic treatment, surgical intervention may be necessary at the infection site, and with injection forms, pain or induration at the injection site may occur, so attention should be paid to the injection method.
