Improvement of sputum expectoration in acute and chronic respiratory diseases
This medication helps to thin mucus produced due to acute and chronic respiratory diseases, making it easier to expel during coughing. It lowers the viscosity of mucus, facilitating easier breathing and promoting the flow of mucus in the respiratory tract, thereby improving symptoms. It is used to assist in breathing and maintain lung health in conditions such as acute bronchitis and chronic bronchitis.
Adults: Administer erdosteine 300 mg orally 2–3 times daily. When administered for acute respiratory disease, do not administer continuously for more than 10 days.
This medication should not be used in patients with hypersensitivity to this drug or its components. It should not be administered to patients with liver cirrhosis or cystathionine synthase deficiency, as its metabolites may interfere with methionine metabolism. Patients with peptic ulcers should not take this medication either. It should not be given to patients with severe renal impairment, particularly those with a creatinine clearance of less than 25 mL/min. Patients with severe liver impairment should also refrain from using this medication. In patients with mild to moderate liver impairment, it should be used cautiously and not exceed 300 mg per day. In cases of overdose, symptoms such as excessive sweating, dizziness, flushing, headache, cold symptoms, or respiratory distress may occur. Gastrointestinal symptoms such as dysgeusia, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and heartburn may appear. Allergic reactions may occur on the skin, such as urticaria, red spots, or eczema. After domestic usage, various adverse reactions have been reported, including fatigue, dyspepsia, palpitations, facial or systemic edema, pruritus, weakness, and rash, though the relationship with this medication is not definitively established. Caution is advised when taken with expectorants, as coughing relief may hinder mucus expulsion from the bronchi, increasing the risk of bronchial infections and causing bronchial contraction and relaxation disturbances. Women who are pregnant or might become pregnant, as well as nursing mothers, should avoid taking this medication. This medication should be kept out of reach of children, and caution should be exercised to avoid transferring to another container, as it can pose a risk of accidents and jeopardize quality.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
There may be interactions if taken with other cough medications, so consult a doctor or pharmacist.
