Summary

Main use
Treatment of depression
Who takes it
Adults
Adult dose
Adults: As with other antidepressants, treatment should continue for at least 4 weeks. Administer 100㎎ per dose, 3 times daily. Initially, administer 100㎎ per dose, twice daily, and according to clinical response, from at least 4 days onward, administer 100㎎ per dose, 3 times daily. General administration: It is important to minimize the risk of seizures. When increasing the dose, the daily dose should not be increased by more than 100㎎ every 3 days. During gradual dose increases, it is important to monitor for and minimize the frequent occurrence of agitation, ataxia, and insomnia at the beginning of treatment. If necessary, these may be managed by temporarily reducing the dose or temporarily administering a short- or intermediate-acting sedative-hypnotic. A sedative-hypnotic is not needed during the first week of treatment, and insomnia may be minimized by avoiding administration at bedtime. If adverse effects occur, stop increasing the dose. A single dose of this medicine should not exceed 150mg. Administer 3 times daily at intervals of at least 6 hours. When administering 300mg or more per day: If there is no clinical effect after treatment with 300mg/day for several weeks, the dose may be increased to a maximum of 450mg/day, up to 150mg per dose. To ensure that a single dose does not exceed 150mg, administer 100mg per dose, 4 times daily at 4-hour intervals. If an adequate effect is not achieved with 450mg/day, discontinue this medicine. Maintenance treatment: The lowest dose is recommended. The duration of treatment is not known, but is generally understood to be several months or longer, as required for acute treatment of depression.

Precautions

This medication may increase the risk of suicidal thoughts or behaviors in young people with major depression or psychiatric disorders, therefore careful observation is necessary when administering it, especially in patients aged 18 to 24. In addition, this medication should not be taken in conjunction with other medications containing the same active ingredient and should be taken at the prescribed dosage to avoid the risk of seizures. The risk of seizures may increase with higher doses, so the total daily dosage should not exceed 450 mg, and dose increases should be made gradually. Patients with impaired liver or kidney function may have the drug accumulate in the body; dosage adjustment and caution are necessary. This medication may impact liver function, so patients with liver disease should be particularly cautious. Patients with a history of psychosis, mania, or suicide attempts, or those who have experienced allergic reactions should consult a doctor before using this medication. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should discuss thoroughly with their doctor as the use of this medication may affect the fetus or the baby. During treatment, it is advisable to avoid alcohol consumption, and caution should be exercised when driving or operating machinery. Additionally, this medication may interact with various other drugs, so if you are taking other medications, be sure to inform your doctor or pharmacist. During administration, side effects such as insomnia, headache, nausea, constipation, rash, agitation, and anxiety may occur, and if symptoms are severe or persistent, notify medical personnel. Serious side effects may occur in case of overdose, so it is crucial to adhere to the prescribed dosage. If overdose is suspected, immediate emergency treatment should be sought. This medication is not recommended for children or adolescents as its safety and effectiveness have not been established for this population. Elderly patients may respond differently to the drug due to decreased bodily function, thus dosage adjustment and caution are necessary. Finally, this medication should be stored out of reach of children, and transferring it to other containers should be avoided.
