How it is given

Adult administration

As tramadol hydrochloride, administer 50-100mg by intravenous or intramuscular injection and repeat every 4-5 hours as needed. The maximum daily dosage can be up to 400mg.

Precautions

This medication can cause seizures if used above the recommended dosage, so it must be used with caution in patients at risk of seizures. Additionally, long-term use may lead to psychological and physical dependence, so it should be administered only for a short period under strict supervision in patients at risk of drug abuse. It can cause severe drowsiness, respiratory depression, coma, and in severe cases, death when taken with central nervous system depressants or alcohol, so extreme caution is required when used together. Patients who genetically metabolize this drug quickly may have increased blood levels of active metabolites, raising the risk of respiratory depression; therefore, dosage adjustment or alternative medications may be necessary for these patients. This medication should not be administered to children under 12 years of age or adolescents under 18 years of age who have undergone tonsillectomy or adenoidectomy, and in adolescents aged 12 to 18, it should be avoided if there are special risk factors. It should not be used in patients with acute alcohol intoxication, central nervous system drug intoxication, severe respiratory depression, head injury or brain lesions, those taking MAO inhibitors, severe liver or kidney dysfunction, pregnant women, or nursing mothers. This medication may have interactions that exacerbate side effects when taken with other analgesics or central nervous system depressants. When co-administered, dosage should be reduced, and patient conditions should be closely monitored. During treatment, drowsiness and dizziness may occur; thus, driving or operating dangerous machinery should be avoided, and tolerance may develop, leading to a gradual increase in dosage which could cause withdrawal symptoms if abruptly discontinued. In case of overdose, severe respiratory depression and seizures may occur, requiring immediate emergency treatment, and if necessary, administration of antidotes and maintenance of respiratory and cardiovascular functions. This medication should be stored out of reach of children, and kept in the original container to prevent drug misuse and deterioration of quality.
