Reduction of cardiovascular disease risk and improvement of hyperlipidemia
This medication is used to reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases. In particular, it lowers the risk of coronary events in adults with a history of coronary heart disease, diabetes, peripheral vascular disease, or cerebrovascular diseases such as stroke. Furthermore, it reduces the risk of death from coronary heart disease and the occurrence of non-fatal myocardial infarction and stroke. For patients with hyperlipidemia, it improves blood lipid levels by decreasing total cholesterol, bad LDL cholesterol, apolipoprotein B, and triglycerides while increasing good HDL cholesterol. It is especially effective for patients with familial hypercholesterolemia or hypertriglyceridemia. This drug also helps manage blood cholesterol levels in pediatric patients with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia as an adjunct to dietary therapy. In summary, this medication is excellent for reducing cardiovascular disease risk and treating hyperlipidemia, and it is used to improve cardiovascular health.
This medication is taken once daily in the evening. 1. For the reduction of cardiovascular disease risk, the recommended initial starting dose is 40 mg once daily. 2. For hyperlipidemia, the general initial starting dose is 20 mg once daily in the evening, and patients with mild to moderate hypercholesterolemia may start with 10 mg. The dosage can be administered once daily in the evening at 5–40 mg, and prior to administering, LDL cholesterol levels should be assessed.

This drug can cause muscle problems; therefore, if muscle pain or weakness is experienced, the doctor must be notified immediately. Particularly, if taking high doses, the risk of muscle damage is higher, and caution is necessary. Patients who are allergic to this drug or have severely impaired liver function, as well as women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, should not take it. Additionally, if taken with certain medications, the risk of side effects may increase; thus, if taking other medications, it is essential to inform a doctor or pharmacist. Patients with poor liver function or those who consume alcohol heavily should have their liver function checked regularly while using this drug. This drug is not used in children under 10 years of age or premenarche females. Elderly patients, women, patients with hypothyroidism, and patients with impaired renal function should exercise greater caution when taking this medication. If unexplained muscle pain or weakness occurs during treatment, consult medical staff immediately, and if necessary, medication can be discontinued. This drug can affect the fetus during pregnancy, so it must be stopped immediately if pregnancy is confirmed. It is also advisable to avoid certain foods such as grapefruit juice during use.
