This medication is used to treat infections caused by various bacteria. For example, it effectively suppresses several harmful bacteria, including Staphylococcus, Streptococcus pneumoniae, and Escherichia coli. It is used in the treatment of complicated skin and soft tissue infections, as well as respiratory infections such as chronic bronchitis and community-acquired pneumonia. Additionally, it is useful for treating genitourinary infections such as acute pyelonephritis, cystitis, and urethritis, both gonococcal and non-gonococcal. It is also effective for bacterial dysentery, enteritis, intrauterine infections, adnexitis, and ophthalmic conditions such as blepharitis and styes. However, as a fluoroquinolone, there is a risk of serious adverse reactions, so it should only be used when other treatment options are not available for acute bacterial sinusitis, chronic bronchitis, and uncomplicated urinary tract infections. Overall, this drug is safely and effectively used for the treatment of various infectious diseases.
