Dosage and Administration

Adult dosage

For mild to moderate infections, apply about 1 cm to the infected area 2 to 3 times a day. In cases of severe infection, apply 1 cm to the infected area every 3 to 4 hours until symptoms improve, and then gradually taper off. Adjust dosage appropriately based on age and symptoms.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in patients who are allergic to aminoglycoside antibiotics or bacitracin. Symptoms such as itching, swelling, redness of the eyelids, conjunctivitis, and temporary burning sensation in the eyes may occur, and if any of these symptoms arise, use should be discontinued immediately. Occasionally, there may be a feeling of irritation or pain, so caution is required. Serious allergic reactions such as skin rash, hives, or anaphylaxis may occur, so if any adverse reactions appear, consult a healthcare professional immediately. To prevent the emergence of resistant bacteria, it is advisable to check the sensitivity to the infecting organism and use only for the necessary duration. It is safe to conduct thorough history-taking and skin reaction tests before administration to prevent severe allergic reactions to the medication. Patients who have used aminoglycoside class drugs systemically may experience adverse effects such as neurotoxicity, ototoxicity, and nephrotoxicity, so blood concentrations should be monitored carefully. During treatment, contact lens wear should be avoided to prevent the spread of infection. Prolonged or repeated use may lead to resistance, and if superinfection occurs, the use of the drug should be stopped and appropriate treatment should be sought. This medication may delay the healing of corneal wounds, so caution is advised. It should be used cautiously in patients with myasthenia gravis or Parkinson's disease as it may affect neuromuscular function. When used in conjunction with anticoagulants, the risk of bleeding may increase, necessitating periodic monitoring of coagulation status and dose adjustment if necessary. It should only be used during pregnancy when absolutely necessary, and while breastfeeding, usage should be carefully considered as it may harm the baby, prompting the need to discontinue breastfeeding. In case of overdose, symptoms such as eye inflammation, erythema, increased tearing, edema, and itching may occur, and blood concentrations should be managed, with treatment involving hemodialysis if necessary. Avoid direct injection into the eye, and be careful not to touch the surface of the eye with the end of the tube to prevent contamination. Some bacteria show resistance to this medication in the country, so caution should be exercised regarding the emergence of resistant organisms.
