This medication is effective for allergic conditions such as seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis and allergic conjunctivitis. It also helps alleviate symptoms of chronic idiopathic urticaria and pruritus (itching). Therefore, it is used for the relief of allergic symptoms and improvement of skin itching.

Dosage and Administration

Adult dosage

Adults and children aged 12 years and older: administer 10 mg orally once daily as cetirizine hydrochloride. For patients sensitive to adverse reactions, the dose may be divided and administered in the morning and evening. Adjust dosage according to age, symptoms. Patients with renal impairment should adjust dosage and administration intervals according to creatinine clearance. - Normal (≥80 mL/min): 10 mg once daily - Mild (50-79 mL/min)

Children's dosage

Precautions

This medication should not be taken by patients who are allergic to specific ingredients, those with severely impaired kidney function, pregnant or breastfeeding women, children under 2 years old, and those with fructose intolerance. While taking this medication, it is advisable not to use it with certain drugs. For example, concomitant use with theophylline or ritonavir may alter the drug's effectiveness or serum concentration. During treatment, breastfeeding should be discontinued, and intake of alcohol should be avoided. Taking it with alcohol may exacerbate side effects such as drowsiness or decreased concentration. Patients with kidney or liver function issues, the elderly, epilepsy patients, or those at risk of seizures should consult a doctor or pharmacist before taking this medication. This drug is primarily excreted through the kidneys; thus, reduced kidney function may increase serum concentration, requiring caution. If serious side effects occur during treatment, discontinue use immediately and consult with healthcare professionals. Possible side effects include drowsiness, headache, dizziness, dyspepsia, itching, skin rash, liver function abnormalities, and urination issues. It is advisable to discontinue this medication for a certain period before an allergy test, and caution is needed when driving or operating machinery. Food may slow down the absorption rate of the drug but does not reduce the total absorption. Store this medication out of reach of children, tightly closed in its original container, and it's safe not to use it after 3 months of opening.
