Precautions

This medication is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic used to treat certain bacterial infections. Caution is advised when taking this medication as serious side effects such as tendonitis, tendon rupture, peripheral neuropathy, central nervous system abnormalities, and exacerbation of myasthenia gravis may occur. Patients with myasthenia gravis in particular should not be treated with this medication as symptoms may worsen. This medication is used to treat acute bacterial rhinosinusitis, exacerbations of chronic bronchitis and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, uncomplicated urinary tract infections, and acute otitis media and should only be used when no other treatment options are available. Elderly patients, patients with renal impairment, solid organ transplant recipients, and those co-administered with corticosteroids have an increased risk of tendon rupture and should avoid co-administration, and treatment should be discontinued immediately if symptoms of pain, inflammation, or tendon rupture occur. Patients with myasthenia gravis should be particularly cautious as symptoms may worsen due to neuromuscular blocking effects of this drug. Patients with hypersensitivity to this medication or quinolone antibiotics, a history of tendonitis or tendon rupture, individuals under 18, pregnant or breastfeeding women, patients with epilepsy, or patients with lactose intolerance should not be administered this drug. Patients with severe renal impairment, central nervous system disorders, a history of seizures, those taking certain anti-inflammatory medications or theophylline, elderly patients, diabetic patients, glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency patients, or those with aortic aneurysms or heart valve disease should be administered this medication with caution. This medication may rarely cause various side effects including shock, severe allergic reactions, neuropsychiatric disturbances, cardiac arrhythmias, renal and hepatic dysfunction, blood disorders, gastrointestinal disturbances, musculoskeletal disorders, and severe skin reactions; therefore, if any unusual symptoms occur, consultation with a physician is necessary. This medication may interact with other drugs, particularly non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, antacids, iron supplements, calcium supplements, theophylline, warfarin, cyclosporine, and diabetes medications, and should be used cautiously in these cases. Pregnant women, women who may become pregnant, and breastfeeding mothers should not use this medication, and it is also not administered to children and growing adolescents. Elderly patients may experience elevated drug concentrations due to impaired renal function, necessitating dosage adjustments and monitoring for side effects. In case of an overdose, central nervous system symptoms and cardiac adverse effects may occur, requiring immediate medical treatment, and this medication is not removed by hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis. When using this medication, it is important to administer it only for the minimum duration as directed by a physician, and to discontinue immediately in case of side effects.
