Precautions

This medication is a beta-lactam antibiotic and should not be used in patients allergic to penicillins or cephalosporins. Special caution is needed for patients with infectious mononucleosis or lymphocytic leukemia, as they are at higher risk of rashes. Patients with a history of liver dysfunction or jaundice should also exercise caution as symptoms may recur with this medication. Patients with impaired liver function or moderate to severe renal impairments may experience increased drug concentrations, necessitating dosage and administration interval adjustments. Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of allergies, older adults, and those in poor nutritional status, as they may have an increased risk of side effects like vitamin K deficiency. Gastrointestinal symptoms may include diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and particularly severe colitis such as pseudomembranous colitis may occur; should these symptoms arise, medical consultation is required immediately. Rarely, hypersensitivity reactions such as abnormal liver function tests, jaundice, skin rashes, urticaria, serious allergic reactions, and changes noted in blood tests like leukopenia and thrombocytopenia may occur, necessitating careful monitoring with regular blood tests for long-term administration. Neurological symptoms such as anxiety, confusion, and seizures have been reported infrequently, so patients with poor kidney function should take special care. Usage should be avoided during the first trimester of pregnancy, and caution should be exercised when taking this medication during pregnancy or lactation following consultation with a physician. This medication can interact with other drugs, so it is essential to inform about any concurrent medications, especially anticoagulants or certain antibiotics that require careful co-administration. Overdosing may lead to gastrointestinal symptoms along with renal failure or allergic reactions, requiring immediate emergency treatment. This medication should be stored in a dry place below 25 degrees Celsius, and the duration of therapy should be maintained to minimize the risk of resistance and side effects.
