View approved original text

This medication is used for peritoneal dialysis in patients with acute and chronic renal failure. It helps improve health by removing waste products and excess fluid from the body when kidney function is not operating normally.

How it is given

Adult administration

In adults, 1.5 to 2.5L is injected into the abdominal cavity and allowed to dwell for 4 to 8 hours before draining, which should be done 3 to 5 times a day.

Precautions

This medication is a dialysis solution for peritoneal dialysis and is used in patients with impaired kidney function. Prompt discontinuation of peritoneal dialysis may pose a risk to life if the patient does not receive other kidney replacement therapies, thus caution is required. Certain patient populations are prohibited from using this drug; for example, patients with diaphragmatic defects, abdominal burns, severe peritoneal adhesions, and high risk of bleeding should not use this medication. Patients suspected of having lactate metabolism disorders or having severe electrolyte imbalances, as well as those who have recently undergone abdominal surgery, should also avoid administration of this drug. Additionally, patients with peritonitis or sepsis, those with severe pulmonary disease, and patients experiencing significant weight loss should be administered this drug cautiously and strictly according to a physician's directives. During administration, various adverse reactions such as abdominal pain, bleeding, peritonitis, electrolyte imbalance, gastrointestinal symptoms, and dyspnea may occur, so careful monitoring is necessary. Particularly, due to the possibility of peritonitis, aseptic conditions must be maintained during administration and it should be used in a clean environment. During dialysis, weight, serum electrolyte levels, blood sugar, and protein levels should be checked regularly to prevent abnormalities. This medication may interact with other drugs; therefore, if the patient is taking other medications, it is mandatory to consult with healthcare professionals. Pregnant or nursing women should assess the need and risk since the safety of this drug has not been established. Special attention and dosage adjustments are required for children and the elderly, and there is a risk of dehydration, electrolyte abnormalities, and hyperglycemia in cases of overdose. The peritoneal dialysis solution should be used as provided in the container, and it should not be used if the packaging is damaged or if the solution is cloudy. Always check the condition of the solution before use, and it is intended for intraperitoneal dialysis only; it should not be used as an injection. This drug should be kept away from direct sunlight and freezing, stored at room temperature, and any remaining solution should not be reused. When adding medications, ensure aseptic handling and use immediately after addition. To safely perform peritoneal dialysis, administration should be under medical supervision, and if the patient performs dialysis independently, sufficient education and training are necessary.
