This medication is used to relieve symptoms such as sneezing, runny nose, nasal congestion, and tearing caused by colds, allergies, and vasomotor rhinitis. The tablet and syrup formulations are effective for symptoms including tearing, while the capsule formulation helps with primary cold symptoms excluding tearing. Patients can expect relief from uncomfortable nasal symptoms through this medication.

How to take

Adult dose

Tablets: 1 tablet per dose, 3 times a day after meals. Capsules: 1 capsule per dose, 3 times a day after meals. Syrup: 10 mL per dose, 3 times a day after meals.

Child dose

Tablets: 12-14 years old: 1/2 tablet per dose, 3 times a day after meals. Capsules: 12-14 years old: 1/2 capsule per dose, 3 times a day after meals. Syrup: Children over 12 years of age: 10 mL per dose,

Precautions

This medication contains pseudoephedrine, which may rarely cause severe skin reactions. If you experience fever or red spots and small blisters on the skin, discontinue use immediately and consult your physician or pharmacist. This medication is contraindicated for individuals with certain conditions. For example, individuals with severely impaired liver or kidney function, severe heart disease, difficulty urinating, high blood pressure, pregnant or breastfeeding women, children under 2 years old, and those allergic to certain medications should not take this medication. Caution should be exercised if taking this medication alongside blood pressure medications, alcohol, sedatives, or some antidepressants, as risks may be associated; especially for those on MAO inhibitors, a gap of at least 15 days is advised before taking this medication. Avoid activities requiring concentration, such as driving or operating machinery, during use. Individuals with asthma, glaucoma, heart disease, diabetes, hyperthyroidism, or prostate enlargement, or children under 12 years of age should consult a healthcare professional before using this medication. If symptoms do not improve within 7 days or are accompanied by a high fever, discontinue use immediately and consult a healthcare professional. Additionally, if drowsiness, anxiety, hallucinations, seizures, severe headaches, skin rashes, gastrointestinal issues, or urinary problems occur, stop taking the medication immediately and consult healthcare personnel. In case of overdose, symptoms may include hallucinations, seizures, and insomnia; immediate emergency assistance is required. This medication should be stored away from direct sunlight in a cool, dry place, out of reach of children. It is also safe to store the medication in its original container.

Acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis (AGEP), severe rash with fever, multiple small pustules, dermatological reactions, severe skin reactions, symptoms of ischemic colitis (sudden abdominal pain, rectal bleeding), reversible posterior leukoencephalopathy syndrome and reversible cerebral vasoconstriction syndrome symptoms (sudden severe headache, thunderclap headache, nausea, vomiting, confusion, seizures, visual disturbances), coma, respiratory failure, cardiovascular collapse

Drug interactions

Do not take this medication with MAO inhibitors, antihypertensive agents, central nervous system depressants (sleeping pills, sedatives, tranquilizers), sympathomimetics, tricyclic antidepressants, guanethidine, bretylium, betanidine, debrisoquine, methyldopa, sympathomimetic drugs (decongestants, appetite suppressants, amphetamines), or adrenergic blockers.

Food interactions

Do not take this medication with alcohol.

This medication is sensitive to light and should be stored in a light-protected container. Additionally, it should be kept in a tightly sealed container to prevent air and moisture from entering, with the storage temperature maintained between 1 degree and 30 degrees Celsius at room temperature.
