This medication is used for common allergic conditions such as hives, hay fever, allergic rhinitis, itching, and conjunctivitis.

How to take

Child dose

Children over 2 years: Less than 40 kg: Administer 2.5 mL of this medication (1.25 mg of Mequitazine) orally per day for every 5 kg of body weight. 40 kg or more: Administer 20 mL of this medication (10 mg of Mequitazine) orally per day.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in certain patients. For example, those allergic to phenothiazine medications or with conditions such as glaucoma or prostatic hyperplasia should avoid this medication. Additionally, patients who are in a coma, taking a lot of central nervous system depressants, certain antidepressants, or those with epilepsy, hepatitis, children under 2 years old, and patients with heart-related disorders should also refrain from using this medication. When using this medication, patients with renal or liver function problems, gastrointestinal conditions, or acute alcohol intoxication, those with blood disorders or respiratory diseases such as asthma, and individuals with a history of sleep apnea should use it with caution. This medication may rarely cause various side effects including skin rash, allergic reactions, liver function abnormalities, blood disorders, drowsiness, dizziness, indigestion, arrhythmias, urinary difficulties, and problems with eye accommodation. If such symptoms occur, discontinue the medication immediately and consult a doctor. Drowsiness may occur with this medication, so it is advisable to avoid driving or operating dangerous machinery. Furthermore, caution should be exercised when taking this medication with other central nervous system depressants, antidepressants, antihypertensives, or alcohol, as interactions may exacerbate side effects. Patients with heart diseases should not use certain medications in combination and should also avoid taking medications that can cause urinary problems, glaucoma, constipation, or dry mouth. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should not use this medication, and it is recommended to discontinue breastfeeding if taking this medication. Its safety has not been sufficiently established for children, especially those under 2 years old, so it is advisable not to use it in this age group. In case of overdose, symptoms such as lethargy, nausea, and vomiting may occur, so immediate medical assistance should be sought, and treatments such as artificial respiration or gastric lavage may be necessary.
