This medication is used for the treatment of dermatophyte infections caused by dermatophytes, such as athlete's foot, tinea corporis, tinea capitis, and onychomycosis in adults. It is also used for treating tinea capitis in children.

How to take

Adult dose

For adults, the dosage is 125 mg twice a day or 250 mg once a day in terms of terbinafine. For dermatophyte infections, athlete’s foot should be treated for 2 to 6 weeks, tinea corporis and tinea cruris for 2 to 4 weeks. Onychomycosis is usually treated for 6 weeks to 3 months, with some patients requiring more than 6 months.

Child dose

Administered to children over 2 years of age; do not administer to those under 2 years. Treatment for tinea capitis lasts 4 weeks. For children weighing less than 20 kg (under 5 years), administer 62.5 mg once a day.

Precautions

This medication is not recommended for patients with chronic or active hepatic disease with impaired liver function. Due to the risk of liver damage, liver function tests should be conducted before starting this medication and regularly monitored during treatment. If any symptoms of liver dysfunction occur, the use of this medication should be discontinued immediately and the physician should be informed. This medication should not be used in patients with blood disorders, severe renal impairment, nursing mothers, or children under 2 years of age. Patients with certain genetic disorders such as lactose intolerance should also avoid this medication. Elderly patients over 65 years or children weighing less than 20 kg, and patients with impaired kidney function should use this medication cautiously. This medication may rarely cause serious skin reactions, so if any abnormal skin symptoms occur, it should be stopped immediately. This medication can cause dizziness or drowsiness, so caution should be taken when driving or operating machinery. There may be interactions when used with other drugs, so any medications being taken should be disclosed to a doctor or pharmacist. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should use this medication with caution, and nursing mothers should discontinue breastfeeding while on this medication. In case of overdose, symptoms such as headache, nausea, abdominal pain, and dizziness may occur; immediate medical attention should be sought if these symptoms appear. This medication should be kept out of reach of children and stored at room temperature away from direct sunlight.

Persistent nausea, fatigue, upper right abdominal pain, jaundice, dark urine, loose stools, cholestatic liver disease, hepatitis, bile duct obstructions, jaundice, serious skin reactions (Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis), rhabdomyolysis, hypotension, respiratory distress, chest tightness, hives, facial swelling, anaphylactic reactions (including angioedema and systemic lupus erythematosus), hives, blood disorders (neutropenia, pancytopenia, agranulocytosis, thrombocytopenia).
