Treatment of complex skin and soft tissue infections, secondary infections in chronic respiratory diseases, etc.
This medication is an antibiotic effective against a variety of bacteria, including Staphylococcus, Streptococcus, Pneumococcus, Gonococcus, and Escherichia coli. It is primarily used for the treatment of complex skin and soft tissue infections, secondary infections in chronic bronchitis and chronic respiratory diseases, as well as infections caused by community-acquired pneumonia and bronchiectasis. It is also effective against urinary tract infections such as acute pyelonephritis, cystitis, prostatitis, gonococcal and non-gonococcal urethritis, as well as bacterial dysentery and gastroenteritis. It is applicable for various inflammatory diseases such as pelvic inflammatory disease, intrauterine infections, Bartholin's gland inflammation, and periocular inflammation, as well as otitis media, sinusitis, and periodontal diseases. Additionally, it can be used for complex internal organ infections such as cholecystitis and cholangitis. However, due to the risk of serious side effects with fluoroquinolone antibiotics, it is safe to use this medication only when there are no other treatment options for specific infections. This drug is used for the treatment of various infections caused by multiple bacteria.
Typically, for adults, levofloxacin is administered orally as a single dose of 100 mg, 2-3 times a day. In cases of severe or insufficient response, this medication can be given as a single dose of 200 mg, 3 times a day. Dosage can be adjusted based on age and symptoms.
This drug is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic and may cause serious side effects such as tendonitis or tendon rupture, peripheral neuropathy, and central nervous system abnormalities, so caution is required. Especially in patients with myasthenia gravis, symptoms may worsen, and it should not be used. This medication should only be used for specific infections such as acute bacterial non-sinusitis, acute exacerbation of chronic bronchitis, uncomplicated urinary tract infections, and acute otitis media when there are no other treatment options. Caution is also required for elderly patients, patients with impaired kidney function, and those taking corticosteroids, as the risk of tendon rupture may increase. This drug may increase the risk of central nervous system stimulation and seizures, so it should be administered with caution in patients with epilepsy or a history of seizures. Moreover, taking it with aluminum or magnesium-containing antacids or iron and calcium supplements may reduce absorption, so it is advisable to space the dosing. It should not be administered to pregnant or breastfeeding women, children, or adolescents in their growth phase. If severe skin rash, difficulty breathing, irregular heartbeat, liver dysfunction, or severe diarrhea occurs during use, the medication should be discontinued immediately, and medical attention should be sought. While taking this medication, excessive sun exposure should be avoided, and if symptoms of dizziness or drowsiness occur, driving or operating machinery should be avoided. Diabetic patients who require blood sugar control should be attentive to blood sugar fluctuations and check their blood sugar regularly. In cases of overdose, they should visit a hospital immediately for proper treatment, as this drug is not removed by hemodialysis. Any abnormal symptoms occurring during the use of this medication should be reported immediately to medical personnel, and prescribed dosages and administration routes should be followed.
