Dosage and Administration

Adult dosage

Total amino acids should be administered via intravenous drip at a maximum dose of 1.5 g per kg of body weight per day (equivalent to 2100 mL per day for a body weight of 70 kg). The administration rate should be 1.7 to 2.1 mL per kg of body weight over 60 minutes (equivalent to 40 to 50 drops per minute for a body weight of 70 kg).

Precautions

This medication must be used under a doctor's direction and should not be taken or stopped arbitrarily. Patients with severe renal impairment or nitrogen metabolism issues, those with heart failure or pulmonary edema, and those with specific electrolyte imbalances should not use this medication. Additionally, patients with a history of myocardial infarction or certain heart and muscle diseases such as atrioventricular block and myasthenia gravis should also avoid administration. It should be administered cautiously to patients with severe acidosis or severe heart failure, and the condition should be checked before administration. When using this medication, adverse reactions like rash, nausea, vomiting, palpitations, and increased blood pressure may occur, so if symptoms appear, medical personnel should be notified immediately. Rapid large-volume administration can lead to acidosis, so careful attention should be given to the rate and amount of administration. Severe side effects such as chills, fever, headache, and difficulty breathing may also occur, so if any abnormal symptoms arise, administration should be stopped immediately and counsel should be sought. Since this medication contains electrolytes, caution should be exercised regarding electrolyte balance during large doses, especially checking blood levels when sodium or potassium is included. Diabetic patients should regularly check their blood sugar levels, and patients with reduced kidney or liver function need dosage adjustment and electrolyte monitoring. This medication may interact with other drugs, especially when used with tetracycline antibiotics or calcium salts. Safety has not been established for pregnant women, thus it should only be administered if the benefits of treatment outweigh the risks. For children, dosage should be kept low as liver function may be immature, and serum ammonia levels should be checked frequently. Elderly patients may have reduced bodily function, thus caution is needed, with slow administration rates and dosage adjustments. Administration must be done slowly intravenously, as rapid infusion may cause side effects. The solution should be prepared in a sterile condition, and discolored or cloudy solutions should not be used. When storing, keep the unopened package and use the product quickly after opening. This medication should be stored at an appropriate temperature, and if crystals form, they should be warmed and then cooled to body temperature before use.
