Relief of allergy symptoms such as allergic rhinitis and conjunctivitis, chronic urticaria.
This medication is used to relieve symptoms of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis, allergic conjunctivitis, chronic idiopathic urticaria, and skin pruritus. It is also used to improve skin inflammation and itching when combined with hydrocortisone topical preparations for the treatment of eczema and dermatitis. Thus, it acts effectively in various allergic and inflammatory conditions.
Adults and children 6 years and older should take 10 mg of cetirizine hydrochloride orally once daily before bedtime. Patients sensitive to side effects may divide the dose into 5 mg each in the morning and evening. For patients with renal impairment, dosage intervals and amounts should be adjusted based on renal function. Dosing and frequency differ based on creatinine clearance; normal and mild cases receive 10 mg once daily, moderate cases receive 5 mg once daily, and severe cases receive.
Children 6 years and older should take 10 mg of cetirizine hydrochloride orally once daily before bedtime. Dosage should be adjusted individually based on the child's renal function and weight.
This medication should not be taken by individuals with allergies to specific ingredients or who have previously experienced hypersensitivity reactions. Patients with severely impaired kidney function or children under 6 years old should not use this medication. Furthermore, individuals with lactose intolerance or certain genetic metabolic disorders should refrain from taking this medication due to the lactose it contains. It is important not to use this medication with certain drugs during treatment. For example, concurrent use with medications such as theophylline or ritonavir may alter the blood concentration or effect of this medication, so caution is required. Additionally, excessive alcohol consumption should be avoided while taking this medication. Patients with kidney or liver problems, elderly individuals, epilepsy patients, or those at risk of seizures should consult a healthcare professional before taking this medication. This medication may exacerbate conditions where urine cannot be easily expelled, so individuals with issues such as benign prostatic hyperplasia should be cautious. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should also consult a healthcare professional before taking this medication, as it may be transmitted through breast milk. If overdose occurs or serious side effects arise, discontinue use immediately and consult healthcare personnel. Possible side effects include drowsiness, headache, dizziness, digestive issues, skin rash, and liver function abnormalities, so any unusual symptoms should be closely monitored. It is recommended to stop taking this medication about a week prior to allergy testing, and caution is advised when driving or operating machinery. Taking this medication with food may slightly delay absorption, but it does not significantly affect efficacy. Finally, this medication should be stored out of the reach of children and kept in its original container.
Hives, severe swelling (edema), tightness in the chest, difficulty breathing, cold sweat, pallor, severe rash accompanied by high fever, blisters, skin peeling, pain in the mucous membranes of the mouth/eyes, difficulty breathing or shortness of breath, asthma attack, respiratory abnormalities accompanied by cough and fever, yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice), extreme lethargy, sudden and very severe headache, thunderclap headache, seizures, confusion of consciousness, visual disturbances, paralysis, urination.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
Do not take this medication in combination with theophylline or ritonavir.
Do not take this medication with excess alcohol.
This medication should be stored in a tightly closed container to prevent exposure to air or moisture. It should be kept away from direct sunlight and stored at normal room temperature.
