This drug is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic used for treating bacterial infections. It requires caution as it may cause tendon-related issues such as tendonitis or tendon rupture, peripheral neuropathy, central nervous system adverse reactions, and exacerbation of myasthenia gravis. If any of these severe side effects occur, discontinue the use of this drug immediately, and it should not be administered to patients with myasthenia gravis. This drug should be used restrictively for certain bacterial infections, preferably administered only when no other treatment options are available. There is a risk of tendon ruptures in the shoulders, hands, Achilles tendon, etc., particularly in the elderly, patients with renal impairment, high-dose users, and when combined with corticosteroids, thus concomitant use should be avoided. If pain, inflammation, or symptoms of tendon rupture occur, stop taking the medication immediately and provide rest and restrict physical activity. This drug has neuromuscular blocking effects and can cause severe symptoms in patients with myasthenia gravis, hence special caution is required. It should not be used in patients with allergies to this drug or similar antibiotics, patients with a history of tendon problems, growth-stage children or adolescents, pregnant or breastfeeding women, and patients with epilepsy. Patients with renal or central nervous system disorders, those taking certain anti-inflammatory drugs or theophylline, elderly patients, and patients with diabetes should use this drug cautiously, and blood glucose levels and neurological symptoms should be carefully monitored. This drug may cause various severe side effects, including allergic reactions, neuropsychiatric abnormalities, cardiac arrhythmias, renal and liver dysfunction, blood disorders, gastrointestinal issues, musculoskeletal disorders, and severe skin reactions. Especially severe skin reactions or respiratory issues, aortic aneurysm, and heart valve abnormalities can occur, so if symptoms appear, immediate medical attention is required. This drug may cause photosensitivity reactions, so strong sunlight or artificial UV exposure should be avoided, and caution is needed when driving or operating machinery due to dizziness or drowsiness. It is advisable not to take this drug in conjunction with certain antacids, iron preparations, calcium supplements, etc., and the risk of bleeding when combined with anticoagulants such as warfarin necessitates monitoring through blood tests. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should not take this drug, and its safety in children or adolescents has not been confirmed, hence it should not be administered. Elderly patients may have increased drug concentrations due to decreased renal function, requiring adjustments in dosage and administration intervals, and there is also a risk of hepatotoxicity, so it should be discontinued immediately if symptoms of liver dysfunction appear. In cases of overdose, central nervous system symptoms and cardiac abnormalities may occur, necessitating immediate treatment, and this drug is not removed by hemodialysis.
