Precautions

This medicine should not be used in patients who have a history of shock from this drug or cephalosporin antibiotics. Patients who have previously shown allergic reactions to this drug or its components should also not be administered. Caution should be exercised in patients allergic to penicillin antibiotics. If there are family members with allergic symptoms such as asthma, skin rashes, or hives, administration should also be done carefully. Patients with severely impaired renal function may need to adjust the dosage and prolong the dosing interval due to the potential for increased concentrations of this medicine. Patients who have difficulty with oral ingestion, those in poor overall condition, or those receiving parenteral nutrition should be closely monitored for signs of vitamin K deficiency. Elderly patients may experience adverse reactions more easily, and dosage and dosing intervals should be adjusted accordingly. Patients with a history of colitis also require caution. Rarely, serious side effects such as severe allergic reactions, shock, skin disorders, blood abnormalities, pseudomembranous colitis, interstitial pneumonia, renal failure, and liver dysfunction may occur; therefore, if any unusual symptoms arise, use should be discontinued immediately and appropriate treatment should be sought. Side effects such as itching, rash, hives, gastrointestinal disturbances, headache, and dizziness may also occur; if symptoms worsen, consult a physician. When using this medicine, it should only be administered for the minimum required duration after susceptibility tests to prevent the occurrence of resistant strains; and if an allergic reaction is suspected, administration should be discontinued and appropriate treatment initiated. Usage of antibiotics may disrupt the normal balance of intestinal flora, leading to serious gastrointestinal conditions such as pseudomembranous colitis; thus, if abdominal pain or diarrhea worsens, inform medical personnel immediately. Infections caused by organisms resistant to other antibiotics may also be possible, so treatment should be adjusted based on symptoms. Patients with reduced kidney function may experience seizures, requiring dosage adjustment; if seizures occur, medication use should be stopped immediately. This medicine may interact when taken with iron supplements, antacids, warfarin, and probenecid, so if taken together, appropriate spacing or consultation with a physician is necessary. Pregnant women or those of childbearing potential should only use this medicine if the benefits outweigh the risks; safety in pediatric and premature infants has not been fully established. Elderly patients should be closely monitored for adverse reactions due to diminished physical functioning. In cases of overdose, symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and convulsions may occur; in severe cases, removal of the drug may be achieved through dialysis. This medicine may affect the results of certain clinical tests, so inform the medical personnel when undergoing such tests. Store this medicine out of the reach of children, avoiding direct sunlight and moisture. Lastly, there may be changes in the color of urine or stool during use of this medicine; these may be drug-related and should be noted.
