Treatment of respiratory and skin infections, mycobacterial infections, and Helicobacter pylori eradication
This medication is effective against various bacteria and is used to treat lower respiratory tract infections such as bronchitis and pneumonia, as well as upper respiratory tract infections like pharyngitis and sinusitis. It is also effective for skin and skin tissue infections and is utilized for the treatment of infections caused by Mycobacterium avium and Mycobacterium intracellular. It is particularly used for the eradication of Helicobacter pylori in patients with duodenal ulcers, helping to improve gastrointestinal health. It is widely used for the treatment of various bacterial infectious diseases due to its ability to address complex infections.
○ Adults: The usual dose of clarithromycin is 250mg (potency) twice daily. For severe infections, administer 500mg (potency) twice daily. The usual treatment duration is 7~14 days. In patients with renal impairment and a creatinine clearance of 30mL/min or less, the dose should be reduced by half: 250mg (potency) once daily, or, for severe infections, 250mg (potency) twice daily. Do not administer this drug to such patients for more than 14 days. ○ Mycobacterial infections: Administer 500mg (potency) of this drug twice daily. In this case, it should be administered concomitantly with other antimycobacterial agents, such as ethambutol, clofazimine, or rifampin. ○ Eradication of Helicobacter pylori in patients with duodenal ulcers: Administer 500mg (potency) of this drug 3 times daily with omeprazole 40mg once daily for 14 days, followed by omeprazole 40mg once daily for 14 consecutive days. That is, administer clarithromycin 500mg (potency) 3 times daily for 14 days (days 1~14) and omeprazole 40mg once daily for 28 days (days 1~28).
Children aged 12 years and older: Same as adults. For children under 12 years of age, use clarithromycin dry syrup.
