Treatment of bacterial infections (such as pneumonia, cystitis, and enteritis); combination therapy for Hansen's disease
This drug is an antibiotic effective against various bacterial infections, including complex skin and soft tissue infections, and is used to treat acute and chronic otitis media, bacterial rhinosinusitis, community-acquired pneumonia, and acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. It is also effective for genitourinary infections such as acute pyelonephritis, uncomplicated acute cystitis, bacterial prostatitis, epididymitis, gonococcal and non-gonococcal urethritis. Additionally, it is used for gastrointestinal infections such as bacterial dysentery and enteritis, gynecological infections like salpingitis, intrauterine infections, and Bartholinitis, and is helpful in treating ophthalmic conditions such as blepharitis, stye, nasolacrimal duct obstruction, meibomitis, and corneal ulcers. Furthermore, it is utilized in combination therapy for leprosy. However, as a fluoroquinolone antibiotic, it has the potential for serious adverse reactions and should be used with caution when no alternative treatments are available. This drug is used to treat various bacterial infections mentioned above.
Adults: Usually, take ofloxacin 300~600 mg daily in 2~3 divided doses. For leprosy, take 400~600 mg of this medicine daily in 2~3 divided doses. In principle, use in combination with other antileprosy drugs. Adjust the dose as appropriate according to age and symptoms.
This drug is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic used to treat various infections. However, this drug may cause tendon-related problems such as tendonitis or tendon rupture; if such symptoms occur, usage should be immediately discontinued. Additionally, it may affect peripheral neuropathy or the central nervous system, so caution is needed if sensory abnormalities or neurological symptoms appear. It should not be used in patients with myasthenia gravis as it may worsen symptoms. This drug should not be administered to specific patient groups, such as those with a history of hypersensitivity to quinolone antibiotics, growing children or adolescents, pregnant or breastfeeding women, and patients with certain genetic disorders. Particular caution is necessary when using this drug in patients with impaired renal or liver function, elderly patients, patients with a history of mental illness, or those at risk of aortic aneurysm. This drug can rarely cause serious allergic reactions, liver dysfunction, kidney problems, gastrointestinal disorders, blood abnormalities, neurological symptoms, skin conditions, muscle and joint pain, respiratory problems, and cardiovascular issues. If any abnormal symptoms appear, consult a healthcare provider immediately. Furthermore, this drug may interact with other medications, so if you are taking anticoagulants, diabetes medications, certain antacids, lipid drugs, or antihypertensive medications, be sure to inform your doctor or pharmacist. Be cautious to avoid excessive sunlight exposure while taking this medication, and discontinue use if a rash or skin abnormality develops. This drug should not be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding and is also not recommended for children and adolescents. Elderly patients may need dose adjustments and careful monitoring due to potential impairment of renal function, which can prolong the drug's presence in the body. In case of overdose, symptoms such as drowsiness, dizziness, and numbness may occur, and in such cases, immediate medical attention should be sought. This drug should be administered slowly via intravenous injection, and it is safe not to mix it with other medications during administration. Finally, this drug should be stored in a place out of reach of children, and transferring it to another container can compromise quality.
