This medication is used to relieve symptoms such as sneezing, runny nose, and nasal congestion caused by colds, allergies, and vasomotor rhinitis. The tablet and syrup forms also relieve tearing symptoms, while the capsule form is effective for sneezing, runny nose, and nasal congestion symptoms. This drug helps improve various nasal-related symptoms that patients find uncomfortable.

How to take

Adult dose

(Tablets) Take 1 tablet 3 times a day after meals. (Capsules) Take 1 capsule 3 times a day after meals. (Syrup) Take 10 mL 3 times a day after meals.

Child dose

(Tablets) For ages 12 to 14, take 1/2 tablet 3 times a day after meals. (Capsules) For ages 12 to 14, take 1/2 capsule 3 times a day after meals. (Syrup) For ages 12 and above, take 10 mL 3 times a day after meals.

Precautions

This medication contains pseudoephedrine, which rarely can cause severe skin reactions such as acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis. If symptoms such as fever, rash, or small blisters occur, discontinue use immediately and consult a medical professional. Additionally, individuals allergic to this medication or those with severe liver, kidney, or heart dysfunction, hypertensive patients, pregnant or breastfeeding women, and infants under 2 years of age should not take this medication. In particular, it is important to avoid using this medication with certain drugs like MAO inhibitors, as this may pose risks. During the use of this drug, it should not be taken with antihypertensives, sedatives, or alcohol, and it can only be started at least 15 days after discontinuing an MAO inhibitor. It is advisable to avoid activities requiring concentration, such as driving or operating machinery, during use. Individuals with asthma, glaucoma, heart disease, diabetes, hyperthyroidism, or prostatic hypertrophy should consult a healthcare professional before taking this medication. If symptoms do not improve within 7 days or if abnormal symptoms such as high fever, central nervous system anomalies, rashes, gastrointestinal issues, or urinary difficulties occur, stop taking the medication immediately and consult a healthcare professional. Overdose may result in symptoms such as hallucinations, convulsions, and insomnia, requiring caution and appropriate emergency care. Finally, this medication should be stored out of the reach of children, protected from direct sunlight, and kept tightly sealed in its original container in a cool, dry place.

Serious side effects

Acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis (AGEP), severe rash with fever, blistering, peeling skin, mucosal pain in mouth/eyes, ischemic colitis symptoms (sudden abdominal pain, rectal bleeding, etc.), sudden and very severe headaches, thunderclap headaches, nausea, vomiting, confusion, seizures, visual disturbances, severe allergic reactions (hypersensitivity)

Mild side effects

Drowsiness, sedation, central nervous system depression, central nervous system stimulation, anxiety, sweating, mild hypotension, visual disturbances, mydriasis, dizziness, hallucinations, agitation, muscle cramps, rigidity, athetosis, generalized and tonic seizures, high fever, respiratory paralysis, coma, cardiovascular collapse, skin reactions, transient irritation pain, burning sensation, thirst, nausea, vomiting, urinary difficulties, excitement in children, acute poisoning symptoms (hallucinations and convulsions), neuroexcitability, dizziness, and fatigue.

Interactions

Drug interactions

This medication should not be taken with MAO inhibitors, antihypertensive agents, central nervous system depressants (sleeping pills, sedatives, anxiolytics), sympathomimetics, tricyclic antidepressants, guanethidine, bretylium, beta-naphthylamine, debrisoquine, methyldopa, sympathomimetic drugs (decongestants, appetite suppressants, amphetamines), or adrenergic antagonists.

Food interactions

This medication can have interactions when taken with alcohol.
