This medication should not be used in certain patients. First, patients who are allergic to this medication or similar drugs, those with blood disorders or a history of such conditions, patients with neurological issues, and women who are pregnant or nursing should not take this medication. Additionally, patients with severely impaired liver function should be cautious as this medication can be slowly broken down in the body and accumulate in the blood. Patients with a fungal infection known as candidiasis may experience worsening symptoms during treatment with this medication and may require concurrent antifungal therapy. Various side effects may occur during the use of this medication. Gastrointestinal side effects may include occasional nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, diarrhea, a metallic taste in the mouth, and a white coating on the tongue. Allergic reactions such as skin rash, hives, itching, and angioedema in the face or neck area may occur. Blood-related problems may cause joint swelling or a temporary decrease in white blood cell count. In the genital area, candidal vaginitis may develop. Other side effects may include headache, heavy sensation in the head, fatigue, dry mouth, and darkening of urine color. Avoid alcohol consumption while taking this medication. Taking alcohol together may lead to uncomfortable symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, headache, and dizziness, and it is advisable not to drink alcohol during the treatment period and for 3 days after stopping the medication. Moreover, if dizziness, lack of coordination, or symptoms of motor dysfunction appear, stop taking the medication immediately and consult a doctor. This medication may interact with other drugs, so caution is necessary. In particular, it can significantly enhance the effects of blood thinners like warfarin, requiring dosage adjustments during and up to 8 days after discontinuation of tinidazole. It may also increase the plasma concentration of lithium, delay the breakdown of phenytoin, an antiepileptic drug, and increase concentrations of immunosuppressants such as cyclosporine or tacrolimus, potentially escalating the side effects of certain chemotherapeutic agents. This medication may also reduce the efficacy of some antibiotics. Pregnant women should be especially cautious with this medication. Animal studies indicate that high doses may impact the fetus, and because it crosses the placenta, it is safest not to take this medication during the first three months of pregnancy. In the later stages of pregnancy, it should only be used if a doctor determines that the benefits outweigh the risks. Additionally, since this medication is passed through breast milk, it is essential to discontinue breastfeeding during treatment. The safety and efficacy of this medication have not been sufficiently established in children, especially those under 3 years of age. Lastly, in cases of overdose, there is no specific antidote, so it is important to receive emergency treatment such as gastric lavage and symptomatic care.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
