Efficacy & effects

Improvement of hypoproteinemia and malnutrition

  • Hypoproteinemia

View approved original text

The supply of amino acids during hypoproteinemia, malnutrition, and conditions such as before and after surgery is very important for helping the patient's protein supply, recovery of strength, and maintenance of physical function. In these cases, amino acid supplementation improves nutritional imbalance and supports rapid recovery. Therefore, it is used to supply amino acids in cases of hypoproteinemia and malnutrition, as well as before and after surgery.

How it is given

Adult administration

For peripheral venous administration, slowly administer 200 to 400 mL intravenously as a single dose. The infusion rate should be about 25 drops per minute for a total of 200 mL in 120 minutes, with approximately 10 g of amino acids per hour being optimal for utilization in the body. For central venous administration, continuously infuse 400 to 800 mL per day via central vein according to high-calorie fluid method.

Child administration

For peripheral venous administration, administer slowly in children. For central venous administration, properly adjust the dosage and infusion rate in children.

Precautions

This medication must be used strictly according to a doctor's instructions, and using it arbitrarily can be dangerous. This medication should not be used in patients with hepatic encephalopathy or those at risk of hepatic encephalopathy, severe renal impairment, or high blood nitrogen levels. Additionally, it should not be administered to patients with nitrogen metabolism issues, severe heart failure or pulmonary edema, and those with extremely low or absent urine output. In cases where sodium and chloride ions are included, it is crucial not to administer this to patients with hypernatremia, hyperchloremia, or alkalosis. Patients with a history of myocardial infarction or current heart disease must consult a doctor before using this medication. Careful administration is advised for patients with specific metabolic abnormalities such as severe acidosis, congestive heart failure, edema due to sodium retention, and hyperkalemia, as well as caution is needed in cases of reduced liver or kidney function. This medication contains sodium bisulfite, which can cause severe allergic reactions or asthma attacks in patients allergic to sulfites or asthmatics, thus caution is necessary. During use, abnormal reactions such as skin rash, nausea, vomiting, palpitations, and high blood pressure may occur, and if such symptoms appear, administration should be discontinued immediately, and the physician should be notified. Rapid administration in large amounts can result in acidosis, so it is important to regulate the rate and volume of administration. This medication can cause electrolyte imbalances, so electrolyte status should be frequently monitored, especially with large doses. Diabetic patients should measure their blood glucose levels frequently during use, and patients with a history of kidney or lung diseases, or heart diseases should be carefully administered to reduce the risk of fluid overload. There may be drug interactions, so it is best to consult a specialist when using it with tetracycline antibiotics. Pregnant women should only use this medication when the therapeutic benefits outweigh the risks, as its safety has not been established. In children, liver function may be immature, thus dosing should be adjusted to lower concentrations, and blood ammonia levels should be frequently monitored. In the elderly, caution is necessary due to decreased physiological function, and the administration rate and dosage should be adjusted accordingly. During administration, electrolyte balance must be maintained, ensure the infusion is not rapid, and adjust the medication according to body temperature. Preparation and management of the infusion solution must be carried out under strict aseptic conditions, and the solution should be checked for color changes or precipitates before use. When storing, do not open the packaging, and do not use it if discoloration or leakage occurs, and it should be stored under appropriate temperature and conditions for safety.
