Precautions

This medication is an antibiotic that attacks the cell wall of certain bacteria to kill them. When using this medication, it should not be administered to patients who have experienced severe allergic reactions to it or similar classes of antibiotics. Additionally, patients with allergies to penicillin or those who have a constitution that easily manifests allergic symptoms such as asthma or skin rashes should use this medication cautiously. Patients with severely impaired kidney function, elderly patients, or patients with poor nutritional status should also use this medication with caution, and should be monitored closely as symptoms of vitamin K deficiency may appear. Patients with gastrointestinal diseases, especially those with a history of colitis, should also use this medication carefully. During use, there is a rare possibility of severe allergic reactions or shock; if symptoms arise, discontinue use immediately and seek medical assistance. Severe rashes or ulcers may occur on the skin, so any skin changes should be reported immediately. Regular blood tests may be necessary as there may be decreases in white blood cells, platelets, and red blood cells. Liver or kidney function may be affected, necessitating periodic checks of liver function and kidney health. If symptoms such as abdominal pain, diarrhea, or blood in the stool occur, notify medical personnel immediately, as severe colitis may develop. If respiratory issues or symptoms such as shortness of breath, cough, or fever occur, it is important to suspect interstitial pneumonia and seek immediate treatment. This medication may affect the central nervous system, potentially causing symptoms such as anxiety, dizziness, drowsiness, and hallucinations, thus caution is required. Oral health should be monitored closely as oral mucositis or Candida infections may develop. Prolonged or high-dose use of this medication may lead to deficiencies in vitamin K and B vitamins, so nutritional status should be managed. When used with other medications, interactions may occur; thus, it is important to consult medical personnel, especially if taking anticoagulants, diuretics, or probenecid. In patients taking oral contraceptives, this medication may interfere with contraceptive efficacy, therefore additional contraceptive methods are recommended. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should carefully weigh the risks and benefits of using this medication, as it may have effects on the infant during breastfeeding. Use in neonates under one month of age is not recommended as safety and efficacy have not been established. Elderly patients may experience side effects more easily due to weakened physical function; therefore, adjustments in dosage and administration intervals should be made with caution. It is important to take this medication only for the minimum period necessary for treatment to prevent the development of resistant strains. If any abnormal symptoms arise during medication, consultation with medical personnel for appropriate measures is essential.
