This medication is effective for seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis, allergic conjunctivitis, chronic idiopathic urticaria, and pruritus. It can also be used in conjunction with topical hydrocortisone for the treatment of eczema and dermatitis. This medication helps alleviate allergy symptoms and improve skin conditions, contributing to an improved quality of life for patients. Therefore, it is used in the treatment of these conditions.
Adults and children aged 6 years and older should take Cetirizine Hydrochloride orally at a dose of 10 mg once daily before bedtime. Patients sensitive to adverse reactions may start with 5 mg, divided into morning and evening doses. Dosage may be adjusted appropriately based on age and symptoms. For patients with renal impairment, dosing intervals should be adjusted based on kidney function, and the dosage and frequency should be adjusted according to creatinine clearance. - Normal (≥80 mL/min): once daily, 10 mg
For children aged 6 years and older, Cetirizine Hydrochloride should be taken orally at a dose of 10 mg once daily before bedtime. Children with renal impairment should have their dosage adjusted individually based on creatinine clearance and weight.
This medication should not be taken by patients allergic to specific ingredients, those with significantly impaired kidney function, children under the age of 6, or individuals with genetic issues such as lactose intolerance. It is important not to take this medication with certain other drugs. For example, combining it with theophylline or ritonavir can alter the drug's effect or concentration. Additionally, excessive alcohol consumption should be avoided during treatment. Taking it with alcohol may exacerbate side effects. Patients with kidney or liver issues, the elderly, those with epilepsy, and pregnant or breastfeeding women should consult a doctor or pharmacist before taking this medication. Since this drug is primarily excreted via the kidneys, those with reduced kidney function may experience increased blood concentration, necessitating caution. While clear risks during pregnancy have not been reported, animal studies have not revealed any significant issues, so it is advised to consult specialists if pregnant. Breastfeeding women should be cautious as this medication may be excreted in breast milk and could impact the baby. In case of overdose, symptoms may include confusion, dizziness, drowsiness, rapid heartbeat, urinary issues, among others, and immediate consultation with medical personnel is necessary. Various side effects can occur during treatment, including drowsiness, headache, indigestion, skin rashes, and liver function abnormalities. Any abnormal symptoms should be reported immediately to a professional. It is advisable to temporarily discontinue this medication before allergy testing, and caution should be exercised when driving or operating machinery. Dosage should be strictly followed as per the doctor's instructions. Finally, this medication should be stored out of reach of children and kept in its original container to maintain safety and effectiveness.
