Improvement of blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes
This medication is used for patients with type 2 diabetes who have difficulty controlling blood sugar with diet and exercise alone. It helps effectively lower blood sugar and reduce the risk of complications. Regular use can improve blood sugar control and significantly aid in health management.
Starting with 40–80 mg of gliclazide per day, taken orally once or twice daily. Then, to ideally control the patient's blood sugar, the dose may be divided into two doses of up to a maximum of 320 mg per day, depending on the patient's condition. The dose should not exceed 160 mg per single administration. For sustained-release tablets, 30–120 mg of gliclazide should be taken orally once daily in the morning, adjusting the dose according to blood sugar levels.
This drug is a sulfonylurea and has the effect of lowering blood sugar, but there is a risk of hypoglycemia, so the dosage and administration must be strictly followed. Severe delayed hypoglycemia can occur, and in severe cases, hospitalization or glucose administration may be necessary. This drug should not be administered to patients with diabetic ketoacidosis, diabetic coma, type 1 diabetes, or those with severe hepatic or renal impairment. Additionally, it is advisable not to use this drug in patients with severe infections, severe trauma, pre- or post-surgery patients, or when food intake is decreased due to diarrhea or vomiting. Caution is required in women with allergic reactions to this drug or similar medications, pregnant or breastfeeding women, and patients taking certain medications. Elderly patients at high risk of hypoglycemia, patients with impaired renal or hepatic function, patients with endocrine diseases, irregular eaters, those who exercise excessively, and those who drink excessively should be administered this drug carefully. Symptoms of hypoglycemia may include weakness, tremors, headache, confusion, and visual disturbances, and immediate action should be taken if these symptoms occur. During the use of this drug, regular testing of blood sugar and urine sugar should be conducted to confirm the effectiveness of the medication and adjustments to dosing or treatment may be necessary. If hypoglycemia occurs, sugar should be ingested immediately, and in cases of severe hypoglycemia, rapid treatment at a hospital is required. This drug may interact with several other medications, so if other medications are being taken, consultation with a physician or pharmacist is essential. Pregnant or potentially pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers should not use this drug, and safety in children has not been established. Elderly patients should be monitored more carefully due to the increased risk of hypoglycemia caused by decreased physical function. In cases of overdose, hypoglycemic symptoms may occur; if symptoms are severe, immediate hospital treatment should be sought. During the use of this drug, caution should be exercised while driving or operating machinery due to the risk of hypoglycemia, especially in the early stages of treatment.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication should be stored in a sealed container to prevent air exposure, and it is recommended to store it at room temperature between 1 to 30 degrees Celsius. This way, the effectiveness of the medication can be maintained for a longer period.
