This medication acts effectively against various bacteria to treat respiratory infections such as acute and chronic bronchitis, pneumonia, tonsillitis, sinusitis, and otitis media. It is also used for urinary tract infections like cystitis, urethritis, and pyelonephritis. It is effective against pelvic infections and sexually transmitted diseases such as gonorrhea, as well as abscesses, furuncles, soft tissue infections, and wound infections. It is also applied in osteomyelitis and dental infections to help improve inflammation and infection. It is widely used to treat various infectious diseases.

How to take

Adult dose

For recurrent tonsillitis and other upper respiratory infections, lower respiratory infections, urinary tract infections, and skin and soft tissue infections of mild to moderate severity: take 20 mg of amoxicillin and 5 mg of clavulanate potassium per kg of body weight, divided into three doses daily. For severe infections such as otitis media, sinusitis, or lower respiratory infections like bronchopneumonia and urinary tract infections, take 40 mg of amoxicillin and 10 mg of clavulanate potassium per kg of body weight, divided into three doses daily.

Precautions

This medicine is a beta-lactam antibiotic and should not be given to patients with allergies or a history of hypersensitivity to penicillins. In particular, those who have experienced anaphylaxis or severe skin reactions should avoid using this medication. Also, patients with infectious mononucleosis or lymphocytic leukemia are at higher risk for side effects such as rashes. Patients with liver dysfunction or a history of jaundice should also avoid this medication as symptoms may recur. Rare cases of liver dysfunction symptoms such as hepatitis or jaundice have been reported, particularly with long-term use. Skin rashes, itching, and in severe cases serious skin reactions like Stevens-Johnson syndrome may occur, and if any abnormal symptoms arise, discontinuation and consultation with a physician is necessary. Blood-related abnormalities, such as leukopenia or anemia, can occur rarely, thus blood tests are necessary with prolonged use. Central nervous system side effects can include anxiety, dizziness, and rarely seizures, requiring prompt reporting of any symptoms. This medication should be avoided during early pregnancy, and caution is warranted during breastfeeding due to potential side effects in the infant. It is advisable not to use this medication in infants, particularly those under 2 months of age, as safety has not been established.
