Energy supply for hyperkalemia and circulatory collapse, fluid and energy supply in heart disease, treatment of drug and toxin poisoning
This medication is used to supply energy required in cases of hyperkalemia, circulatory collapse, and hypoglycemia. It also aids in fluid and energy supply alongside various therapies for heart disease. It supports treatment in conditions resulting from drug or toxin poisoning.
Administer 20-500 mL intravenously at a time. The infusion rate should not exceed 0.5 g/kg of dextrose per hour. Use an appropriate amount for the dilution of the injection solution. Adjust upward or downward based on age and symptoms.
This product contains dextrose, which can significantly increase the consumption of vitamin B1 in the body when administered intravenously. Thus, there is a risk of severe vitamin B1 deficiency and caution is advised. This product should not be administered to patients with certain conditions such as storage dehydration, fluid overload, hyperglycemia, acidosis, hypokalemia, hyperosmolar coma, glucose intolerance, anuria, hepatic coma, etc. Additionally, it should be avoided in patients with allergies to this product or its ingredients. Caution should be exercised in administering to patients who have a tendency for potassium, phosphate, magnesium deficiencies or those with hyponatremia, diabetes insipidus, renal failure, heart failure, severe malnutrition, thiamine deficiency, sepsis, severe dehydration, and shock states. Care is also needed in diabetic patients or those with blood dilution conditions. Rapid or large-scale administration can result in electrolyte imbalance or fluid overload, potentially leading to complications such as pulmonary edema or congestion. Moreover, the injection site may show inflammation, thrombosis, or pain, requiring monitoring. Long-term use may impact insulin secretion; thus, insulin may need to be co-administered for blood glucose control. During infusion, blood electrolyte and glucose levels should be regularly monitored, along with considerations for fluid balance. During pregnancy, safety for the fetus has not been established, and it should only be used when the therapeutic benefits outweigh the risks. Administering during labor poses risks of hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia for both mother and newborn and should be done with caution. Newborns, especially premature or low-birth-weight infants, are at high risk of hypoglycemia or hyperglycemia due to difficulties in blood glucose control, necessitating close monitoring. Hypoglycemia can lead to severe brain injury, and hyperglycemia can cause various complications. Elderly patients should be monitored more carefully due to decreased body function. In cases of overdose, symptoms of hyperglycemia or diabetes may occur, which should be managed with insulin. Subcutaneous administration is not recommended as it can cause electrolyte imbalance and local irritation. Unused solution should be discarded immediately after opening, and care should be taken during the injection process to prevent infection. At low temperatures, the solution should be warmed to body temperature before use, and careful administration is essential in cases of hypertonic solutions due to the risk of thrombophlebitis. Sudden withdrawal may cause hypoglycemia, so it is advisable to discontinue gradually. When administered simultaneously with blood, agglutination reactions may occur; thus, they should be avoided. When mixed with other drugs, one should be fully aware of potential chemical and physical side effects and observe carefully. After mixing, it should be used immediately, and multiple containers should not be connected in series to avoid the risk of air embolism due to air in the container.
Hypokalemia, hypertonic coma, acidosis, dehydration, hyperosmolarity, polyuria accompanied by dextrose detection, excess fluid or solute states, electrolyte imbalance, congestion, pulmonary edema, hyperglycemia, renal loss, fever, thrombophlebitis, thrombosis, extravasation, injection site pain, uremia
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication should be stored in a sealed container to prevent exposure to air or moisture. This ensures that the effectiveness of the medication remains intact and safe for use.
