Preventive treatment and symptom improvement for bronchial asthma (in adults and children)
This medication is used for preventive treatment depending on the symptoms of adults with mild to severe bronchial asthma. In mild patients, it helps alleviate symptoms that occur while using bronchodilators occasionally, and in moderate patients, it is effective for controlling symptoms through regular treatment. Particularly in severe asthma patients, administration of this medication can reduce or discontinue the use of systemic corticosteroids. It is also used for preventive management of asthma that is not controlled by existing treatments in pediatric patients. Therefore, this medication is used to improve and control symptoms in patients with varying severities of bronchial asthma.
This medication should be administered by inhalation only. Adults and adolescents over 16 years should inhale 100-1000 μg twice daily. Adjust the dosage according to the severity of the condition: - Mild: 100-250 μg twice daily - Moderate: 250-500 μg twice daily - Severe: 500-1000 μg twice daily Then adjust the dosage according to individual responses to control asthma or decrease to the minimum effective dose.
Children aged 4 to 16 years should inhale 50-100 μg twice daily. The treatment should start with a dosage of 50-100 μg twice daily depending on the severity of the asthma, and then adjust according to individual responses.
This medication should not be used in patients with severe milk protein allergy or those who have had hypersensitivity reactions to its ingredients. Additionally, it is not suitable for use in highly acute asthma conditions or as the first treatment for acute asthma attacks. Caution is required when used in patients with moderate to severe bronchiectasis. Patients with pulmonary tuberculosis or lung mycosis, or those undergoing treatment, need special caution when using this medication. Rarely, bronchospasm may occur after using this medication, so if such symptoms appear, treatment should be stopped immediately and a doctor should be consulted. While using this medication, an oral and throat candidiasis infection may arise; to prevent this, it is good practice to rinse the mouth thoroughly after inhalation. Some patients may develop a hoarse voice, which can be alleviated by rinsing the mouth with water. Rarely, skin rash, angioedema, and severe allergic reactions may occur, so any abnormal symptoms should be immediately evaluated by a doctor. Prolonged high-dose use may lead to systemic side effects such as adrenal suppression, growth retardation, cataracts, and glaucoma, so treatment should be at the minimum effective dose. Particularly, patients transitioning from oral steroids to this medication should have adrenal function monitored regularly and be treated carefully. This medication does not relieve acute asthma attacks, so rapid-acting bronchodilators should be used for acute symptoms. During pregnancy, limited data exists about the effects of this medication on the fetus, so it should only be used when the benefits of treatment outweigh the risks. In breastfeeding, the expected impact on newborns is low, but caution should still be exercised. Not recommended for children under 4 years old; those aged 4 and older should follow proper inhaler usage methods. Overdosage may temporarily lead to adrenal suppression, but recovery generally occurs with time. This medication should not be discontinued abruptly; dosage should be gradually adjusted according to a doctor’s instructions. This medication may interact with other drugs, particularly caution should be taken not to use it in conjunction with strong CYP3A4 inhibitors like ritonavir. When using the inhaler, proper inhalation methods should be followed, and the mouth should be rinsed thoroughly after use to prevent oral infections. Store this medication in a cool and dry place out of reach of children, and keep the inhaler closed when not in use.
