How to take

Adult dose

○ Adults usually take 300~600 mg of ofloxacin per day, in 2~3 divided doses. ○ For Hansen's disease, take 400~600 mg of this medicine per day, in 2~3 divided doses. In principle, use in combination with other antileprosy medicines. Adjust the dose as appropriate according to age and symptoms.

Precautions

This medication is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic and can cause serious side effects, thus caution is needed. Firstly, it may cause significant adverse reactions such as tendon inflammation or rupture, peripheral neuropathy, central nervous system abnormalities, and exacerbation of myasthenia gravis. If these symptoms occur, the use of this medication should be immediately discontinued, and it is safe not to use it in patients with myasthenia gravis. Additionally, this medication should be used restrictively only for specific infections such as acute bacterial non-sinusitis, acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis, simple urinary infections, and acute otitis media when no other treatment options are available. Elderly patients, those with impaired kidney function, and patients using corticosteroids together should avoid this combination due to increased risk of tendon rupture. If symptoms of pain, inflammation, or tendon rupture occur, discontinue the medication immediately and take rest. This medication may increase the risk of seizures, and patients with epilepsy or central nervous system disorders should take special caution. During administration, it is important to regularly monitor liver and kidney function, perform blood tests, and ensure adequate hydration to reduce kidney burden. Moreover, this medication may cause neurological adverse reactions such as dizziness or drowsiness; caution is needed when driving or operating machinery. To prevent photosensitivity reactions, avoid exposure to strong sunlight or artificial ultraviolet light. If any unusual symptoms like skin rash occur, discontinue its use immediately. Blood sugar disturbances may occur, so diabetic patients should closely monitor their blood sugar levels. Patients with heart or aorta-related diseases should be careful when using this medication. This medication may interact with other drugs; therefore, care should be taken when used in combination with anticoagulants, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, cytochrome P450 metabolic drugs, and consultation with a specialist is advised. It is safe not to use this medication in pregnant or nursing women, children, and adolescents during growth, and adjustments in dosage are necessary for the elderly due to the high risk of side effects resulting from reduced kidney function. Finally, in the event of any adverse reactions, it is important to inform healthcare personnel immediately and receive appropriate treatment.
