This medication is used to treat a variety of bacterial infections. It is mainly effective against various bacteria such as Escherichia coli, Salmonella, and Staphylococcus. It is used for respiratory infections excluding acute bronchitis and community-acquired pneumonia. It is also helpful in treating infections of the ear, nose, and throat, gonococcal cervicitis and urethritis, gastrointestinal and bile duct infections, skin and soft tissue infections, bone and joint infections, and more. Specially, it can be prescribed for bacterial prostatitis, urinary tract infections, gynecological infections, peritonitis, eye-related infections, etc. However, as it belongs to the fluoroquinolone class of drugs, there is a risk of serious adverse reactions, so it should be used only when no other treatment methods are available for conditions such as acute bacterial sinusitis, acute exacerbation of chronic bronchitis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, uncomplicated urinary tract infections, and acute otitis media. This medication is very effective for treating several infections.
