Who uses it
Adults
Adult dosage
For intraperitoneal administration only and not for intravenous use. Administer at a rate that is comfortable for the patient over about 10-20 minutes. For adults, the usual volume injected into the peritoneal cavity is 2.0L to 2.5L based on a body surface area of 1.73m2. Continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) is performed 4 times a day, while automated peritoneal dialysis (APD) is conducted in cycles of 4-5 times overnight and up to 2 times during the day. Efficacy & effects

Used as a peritoneal dialysis solution for the treatment of acute and chronic renal failure

View approved original text

This medication is used for peritoneal dialysis in patients with acute and chronic renal failure. It helps to remove waste products from the blood of those with decreased kidney function and regulates fluid balance within the body. By assisting in waste elimination instead of the kidneys, it helps to maintain a stable internal environment. It plays an important role in improving the health status of patients with renal failure, thus it is used safely during peritoneal dialysis.

Dosage and Administration

Adult dosage

For intraperitoneal administration only and not for intravenous use. Administer at a rate that is comfortable for the patient over about 10-20 minutes. For adults, the usual volume injected into the peritoneal cavity is 2.0L to 2.5L based on a body surface area of 1.73m2. Continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) is performed 4 times a day, while automated peritoneal dialysis (APD) is conducted in cycles of 4-5 times overnight and up to 2 times during the day. The exchange of dialysis solution should be performed aseptically.

Precautions

This medicine is a dialysis solution used for peritoneal dialysis, which is used to remove waste and excess fluid from the body through the peritoneum. If the peritoneal dialysis treatment is abruptly discontinued, it may pose a threat to life if there is no alternative renal replacement therapy, so the treatment plan should be followed carefully. Rarely, a serious complication known as encapsulating peritoneal sclerosis may occur during peritoneal dialysis, which may lead to fatal consequences, so caution is needed. This medicine contains dextrose, a corn-derived ingredient, so patients with corn allergies are at a higher risk of severe allergic reactions and should not be administered this medication. Since it contains lactate, it should not be used in patients with severe lactic acidosis or in patients at high risk for lactic acidosis, and the occurrence of lactic acidosis should be checked periodically during treatment. During peritoneal dialysis, the electrolyte balance within the body must be carefully monitored, especially in patients taking cardiac glycosides, who need to closely monitor serum potassium levels. Diabetic patients should frequently check blood glucose levels during and after dialysis and adjust the dose of insulin or diabetes medications as necessary. Peritoneal dialysis solution must be used in a sterile environment, and should be manipulated in clean conditions to prevent peritonitis. During peritoneal dialysis treatment, weight, nutritional status, and fluid and electrolyte levels should be regularly monitored to prevent abnormalities. Overadministration of peritoneal dialysis solution can cause abdominal discomfort, abdominal pain, and respiratory distress, so proper dosages must be followed, and drainage actions should be taken immediately in case of overdose. The peritoneal dialysis solution should be used as provided in the container, and should not be used if the packaging is damaged or the liquid appears cloudy. The use of this medication should be carefully considered for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, and dosage adjustments and special care are needed for children and the elderly. This medication may interact with other drugs, so patients undergoing peritoneal dialysis must inform healthcare providers about all medications they are taking.
