This medication is used to relieve symptoms of difficulty in expelling phlegm in acute and chronic bronchitis, bronchial asthma, laryngitis, sinusitis, cystic fibrosis, and other conditions.

Dosage and Administration

Adult dosage

Acute illness: 200 mg once, 3 times a day Chronic illness: 200 mg once, 2 times a day

Children's dosage

Acute illness: 6 to 14 years, 200 mg once, 2 times a day Chronic illness: 6 to 14 years, 100 mg once, 3 times a day Cystic fibrosis: 6 years and older, 200 mg once, 3 times a day

Precautions

This medication should not be taken by individuals allergic to this medication or its components. Individuals with ulcers in the stomach or duodenum should also not use this medication. Children under 2 years old should not take this medication. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should only use this medication after consulting a physician if absolutely necessary. Nursing mothers should also consult a healthcare professional before taking this medication, as it is uncertain whether it is excreted in breast milk. If gastrointestinal issues such as nausea, vomiting, inflammation of the mouth, heartburn, or diarrhea occur, or if allergic symptoms such as hives, itching, rash, headache, tinnitus, or shortness of breath develop while taking this medication, stop taking it immediately and consult a healthcare provider. Care should also be taken as there may be rare occurrences of increased heart rate or elevated blood pressure. Serious side effects such as difficulty in breathing have been reported with this medication, and if symptoms occur, consult a specialist immediately. When taken with oral antibiotics, the effectiveness of the antibiotics may be reduced, so it should be taken at least 2 hours apart. Avoid mixing this medication's solution with other medications. Store in a safe place out of reach of children, and it is safe to keep in the original container. The inhalation form of this medication may induce bronchospasm in patients with asthma or compromised respiratory function, so consult a healthcare professional before use. Pregnant and nursing women, the elderly, and children should consult a physician before use. After inhalation, symptoms such as lightheadedness, nausea, vomiting, or loss of appetite may occur, and in rare cases, hemoptysis, chills, fever, drowsiness, or chest tightness may occur. Increased bronchial secretions may occur; if expectoration is difficult, appropriate treatment is needed. When used with antibiotics, it is advisable to avoid mixing and to administer each separately. This medication is not used as an injection or eye drops, and after nebulization, the mask may fit snugly against the face but can be easily removed with water. Elderly patients should be carefully monitored and used cautiously due to decreased body function. The inhalation device should be cleaned immediately after use, and caution should be exercised as some medications may cause precipitation or discoloration when mixed. During continuous nebulization, the concentration of the medication may increase, so it is advisable to dilute it appropriately.
