Improvement of blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes
This medication is used in patients with type 2 diabetes who have difficulty controlling blood sugar levels with diet and exercise alone. It helps effectively lower blood sugar levels and aids in blood sugar management. This can reduce the risk of complications and improve the overall health status of patients. Continuous use along with maintaining a healthy lifestyle is encouraged. This drug is very useful in the treatment of type 2 diabetes.
Adults: Start with 40-80 mg of gliclazide per day, taken orally once or twice daily. To optimally control blood sugar levels, the maximum daily dose can be divided into two doses up to 320 mg, depending on the patient's condition. No single dose should exceed 160 mg. The dosage must be adjusted according to patient status. In obese patients or those not responding adequately to this drug, additional treatment may be necessary.
This medication is a sulfonylurea and can cause hypoglycemia, so strict adherence to the dosage and administration is required. It should not be administered to patients with diabetic ketoacidosis, diabetic coma, patients with type 1 diabetes, or those with severe liver or kidney dysfunction, and is not recommended for patients with serious infections, trauma, or during pre-and post-operative periods. Patients who have reduced food intake due to diarrhea or vomiting, those who have had hypersensitivity reactions to this drug, pregnant or nursing women, patients taking miconazole, and those with lactose intolerance should not use this medication. Extra caution should be taken in elderly patients, those with impaired kidney and liver function, patients with endocrine disorders, those who are malnourished or have irregular eating habits, patients who exercise excessively or consume alcohol, and in cases where this drug is used in combination with other medications. This drug can cause hypoglycemic symptoms, including fatigue, hunger, tremors, headaches, confusion, dizziness, drowsiness, and convulsions, which in severe cases can lead to coma. Rarely, there may be changes in blood, liver dysfunction, gastrointestinal symptoms, skin rashes, and visual disturbances, so if any abnormal symptoms occur, it is essential to consult a doctor immediately. This medication is only used for patients with a confirmed diagnosis of diabetes and should be considered after adequate diet and exercise therapy have been ineffective. Start with a low dose and regularly check blood and urine sugar levels, and if insufficient effect is noted, other treatments can be considered. If hypoglycemia occurs, sugar should be ingested immediately, as artificial sweeteners are ineffective. Immediate medical attention is necessary if severe hypoglycemia is suspected. Blood sugar control can be affected by various factors such as infections, trauma, and surgery, so patients and their families should be informed about the symptoms of hypoglycemia, how to respond, and the importance of regular blood sugar monitoring. This drug may interact with specific medications; caution is needed when used in combination with miconazole, some anti-inflammatory drugs, alcohol, other diabetes medications, antibiotics, antidepressants, anticoagulants, etc. It should not be administered to pregnant or nursing women, and safety in children has not been established. Elderly patients have a higher risk of hypoglycemia due to decreased physical function, requiring regular monitoring. In cases of overdose, hypoglycemic symptoms may occur; mild cases can be managed with sugar intake, but severe cases require immediate treatment in a hospital. Care should be taken to avoid hypoglycemic symptoms when driving or operating machinery, especially in the early stages of treatment. This medication should be stored out of reach of children and not transferred to other containers for safety.
