How to take

Adult dose

For adults and children (12 years and older), administer 20ml once twice a day. After significant improvement of symptoms, the dosage can be reduced to 10ml once 2-3 times a day. Patients with severe respiratory distress may take 20ml three times a day for the first 2-3 days.

Precautions

This medication should not be administered to patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. It should be used with caution in patients with hyperthyroidism, hypertension, heart diseases such as heart failure or arrhythmias, diabetes, and severe renal impairment. While taking this medication, psychiatric neurological symptoms such as headache, tremors, muscle rigidity, drowsiness, anxiety, dizziness, nervousness, insomnia, excitement, and limb numbness may occur. Additionally, cardiac issues such as palpitations, rapid heartbeat, blood pressure changes, hypertension, and arrhythmias may arise. If hypersensitivity reactions like skin rash, itching, angioedema, urticaria, bronchospasm, hypotension, or collapse occur, this medication should be discontinued immediately. Other side effects such as liver dysfunction, generalized malaise, edema, and gastrointestinal disturbances may also be experienced. Excessive dosing carries the risk of causing cardiac rhythm abnormalities or cardiac arrest, so it is vital to adhere to the prescribed dosage and method. If there is no effect despite taking the medication as directed, it may not be suitable, and use should be discontinued, with consultation from a physician. Especially when administering to children, the usage instructions should be clearly communicated, and the condition should be closely monitored. This medication can lower blood potassium levels, particularly when used in conjunction with xanthine drugs, steroids, or diuretics, making it necessary to exercise caution. In cases of hypoxia, the decrease in blood potassium levels may have a greater impact on cardiac rhythm, so periodic monitoring of blood potassium levels is advisable. This medication should not be used together with catecholamines such as epinephrine or isoproterenol, as they may induce cardiac rhythm abnormalities or cardiac arrest. Additionally, caution is warranted for patients taking MAO inhibitors or tricyclic antidepressants, as this medication could potentiate vascular effects. The concomitant use of non-selective beta-blockers such as propranolol should also be avoided. Particular care is required when administering this medication to patients taking multiple sympathomimetics. During pregnancy, this medication can suppress uterine contractions, delaying delivery and may cross the placenta or be transmitted through breast milk, therefore women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should use it with caution after consulting a physician. Particularly, extra caution is necessary during the first three months of pregnancy. Elderly patients may have reduced physical function, thus dosage reduction or careful usage of this medication is required. Symptoms of overdose usually subside once the medication is stopped but, if necessary, a cardiac selective beta-blocker can be used as an antidote; however, caution is needed for patients with a history of bronchospasm. Finally, some components of this medication may cause allergic rashes with dosage changes, and rarely, some sensitive individuals may experience systemic allergic reactions, so vigilance is required.
